According to Tom Walkinshaw(in a interview in the dutch version of this months F1racing magazine) he did offer Pedro a contract last year, the contract even freed him of his obligations to bring in personal sponsors(in other words: a contract like Jos has) , but Pedro did'nt sign because he wanted more money, at that moment TW thought that he should replace Pedro(they where going to replace one of the drivers at the end of this year anyway) this year already. Pedro had offers from other teams that offered a lot more money, but Tom would'nt pay that. But stil: Pedro could have driven for Arrows, and get payed by the team without the Repsol sponsorship being involved, seems to me Pedro waited to long to sign the contract.

Maybe Pedro didn't want to drive no more. He seems to be much more in his element as a manager.

Wrong, Pedro, Jean,,,
Steve, given the early season prospects of the AsiaTech engine, I'll bet PDLR was looking for a way out. I certainly was surprised by Jos' form in Malaysia-and not because JV isn't a talented driver, i think he;s great, its just that Arrows has been hamstrung by weak engine packages for so long that Verstappen's drive was totallt unexpected. |

This probably has more to do with Pedro's backers Repsol. Arrows couldn't keep the Repsol sponsorship so a deal would have been offered to Pedro - this will either have been a paltry sum so that Tom can say 'we offered him a contract', or a decent sum but Pedro was unwilling to break a long-standing deal with his sponsor (if he did and Arrows decided to dump him where would that leave him?).
Just typical 'money, money' F1 politics. |

Have you read my post angst??
It clearly says that TW offered Pedro a contract that freed him of sponsor obligations, so even if Repsol had quit sponsorig him he would have driven for Arrows this year. |

Yes I did read your post Steve. Read mine again. He doesn't necessarily WANT to rescind his deal with Repsol does he?
