23rd/24th March - Silverstone / Brands :)

The 2002 season kicks off for me in a seriously mad relay race on the 23rd/24th of March.

On the 23rd, we'll be at Silverstone for the SUNBAC races (last year known as SnowBAC, because it did ). This will be the first proper race outing for the MG Maestro. Number 10 [tenths] on the track, and probably mostly red. It will have no ignition problems, and will require no pushing. Also featuring will be Monopostos, 750mc Formula 4, and Caterham Graduates.

On the Sunday, the Mini will be out at Brands Hatch for the first Mighty Mini race, and the first BRSCC meet of the season. New colour scheme for this season, but still #36. There's 14 new drivers in the Mighties this year, so look out for packed grids and close racing!. Also in attendance will be the stunning Super Coupes, the Ford Saloon challenge, and the Ford Fiesta challenge..

Should be more races than listed at both days, but details are sketchy at the moment. Sunday clashes nicely with Thruxton BARC (featuring the return of the Mallett) - grr

Brands Hatch 24th sounds quite exciting, followed by the same venue the following weekend for the BTCC.

Just got to be kind to the Sun God for two weekends in a row. Anyone willing to become a Human Sacrifce ? Or any nominations ?

I nominate Hakkiman

Yes, Craig - I'm going to try not to repeat the last performance at Brands in qualifying - I've only just rebuilt the bloody thing!!!

Yes, Deb Lomax will be taking part in her first race too - should be a good day..

Hey, right month to be talking about this now Which also means that Octagon are now officially late in getting their season tickets sent out...
Just please please don't let Silverstone be as cold as it was last year!!!
Chris, if I'm making the trek down to Brands you are now ordered to do well in that race...or else

Dear Octagon Motorsport,

Why, oh why, oh why...

Yours,
Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells.

P.S. I'm 83 you know, and a subscriber to the Daily Mail.

Oops, sorry I thought I was on the BBC Watchdog website for a moment then. Whoa, watch out - Nicky Campbell is going to interrupt mid-sentence in a second or two in that very annoying way he appears to do.

On the other hand, I'm sure they'll be blaming Consignia for any delays they are experiencing, or Railtrack, or Stephen Byers. Perhaps it's the wrong type of paper in the printer or something? ;-/

You were very nearly right with 'the wrong type of paper in the print' - they didn't like the season tickets that were printed....

Just got back from Snetterton and testing with Debs and mark in the Renault 5 and Rover, Paul & Rick in the Clio V6s.
The weather started off sunny but breezy then went cold and then a bit damp to finish.
Being no expert but I think Debbie and Mark are happy with their times. Debbie had a small excursion but we all have to learn somewhere.
Rick was well chuffed to beat his fastest lap, Paul some seconds slower. Rick did a very nice spin but I missed it. The replay went something like 'there was this prat in front of me' and finished in true Rick style with waving of arms (which Debs has mastered a treat - I warn everyone to stay well away from ALL of them when they are explaining the finer points of race craft!!)

Out of interest Team Petrobas tried out 2 F3000 cars (nice) and Nick James was trying the Porsche and enjoying it.

Our octagon season passes turned up last friday . Although they wernt the actual passes , they were tempoary tickets valid for all events until mid april . They said they were behind with getting all the proper passes done , so these will be vaid until we get the real thing.
Not long til Brands now !

p.s. I phoned and enquired about the tickets last week - but still nothing through the post

I am not too sure where we will be camping mate, I would imagine we'd head down to Brands on Saturday night ? Will need to know Chris' plans really. Silverstone to Brands is easy... Turn left out of the main gate, through Buckingham and Aylesbury and pick up the A41. When you get to the M25 turn right or left (doesn't matter) and turn off when you see the signs for Brands

I find it easier to go A whatever the road is to the M40, then M25 via Gatwick and on to Brands, but that's purely a personal choice.

Yes, we'll probably be camping at Brands.. Much better to get all the travelling and stuff over and done with on the Saturday night. Plus, have to stash one car and collect the other.

Another good reason not to camp/eat at Silverstone. SUNBAC supplementary regs state: "No hospitality including barbecues (sic) is permitted within the confines of the meeting without the prior written consent of Octagon Motorsports Ltd."

So, unless you want a £1,000 fine, don't start up an instant BBQ! I wonder if this has come into being because of scorch marks left on the lawn between the paddock diner and the paddock shop? Not that we'd know anything about that
