Winterbottom signs 5 year deal

this from www.kartoz.com

Last year's Ford KartStars, Clubman Light and Formula A Australian Champion, Mark Winterbottom has signed a five year deal with Stone Brothers Racing and Ford Racing boss, Howard Marsden, this afternoon at Sydney's Eastern Creek.

The deal, which is expected to be officially announced tomorrow on Network Ten's RPM, will see Winterbottom at the forefront of Ford's never ending push for a young superstar to take the fight up to Mark Skaife and HRT.

There has been no announcement as to what races the 21 year old Sydney sider may compete in, however, there are three Stone Brothers cars for Bathurst, and given that he is to be one of the outright contenders in this year's Ford Racing Formula Ford Championship, there is every chance that come October 13, the name M Winterbottom could adorn the window of the Pirtek or Caltex Havoline Falcons.

Another rumour concerning Winterbottom is that he will move to Melbourne to be closer to Borland Racing Developments, his Formula Ford team and to Howard Marsden and the Ford Factory.

The five year deal is sweet payback for the hard work of Mark and his family, along with those who have put their faith into Mark over the years including Winterbottom's Tony Kart boss and mentor, Jim Morton and Anthony Bartolo of J&A Engine Tuning.

Mr Squiggle should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Oh well. There goes another promising young talent.

Why is a Superbus contract of this kind seen as a positive career move in this country?

Well what are the options? There are no other forms of paid drives in Austrlain circuit racing, and you can only go overseas if:
a) you get incredibly lucky and join up to a factory outfit, or
b) you have a large fortune that you wish to turn into a small one...

A V8 drive in no way guarantees an overseas drive - if anything, it virtually assures the driver they will NEVER get an overseas drive of any kind.

Exactly my thoughts Racetime. My musings were meant to mean that once a taxi driver, always a taxi driver. If thats what he wnts to do then more power to him. But I hate spin doctors thattry and talk up this kind of thing into being something 'cos it ain't.
The big fish in a small pond mentality is also getting tiresome.
BTW crashtest. Nothings for free let alone paid in the world of Superbus. He has NOT got himself a J_O_B in the true collect your pay cheque, superannuated way. The Stone's have mearly decided they can sell the kid toprospective sponsors as a going thing.

Well it appears that this alleged 5 year deal was written with a pen & paper supplied by Craig Lowndes.

He had the ability to slide out early, on long term deals signed with team owners.........

i dont beleive the payment of money is a slide out, and besides you would reckon a team owner thats owns an F1 team would be smart enough to sign his driver to the team and not to the team owner
