Mark F1 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
What a brilliant BRC we have this year !

We have now had the first two rounds of the 2002 British Rally Championship, and I have to say that I am very impressed indeed with the quality of the championship.

A couple of years ago the series was struggling and the series was still being run for the less popular Formula Two cars. The series was becoming fragmented, most notably when the very successful and popular Ulster Rally was axed from the calander, and then of course last year the whole championship was cancelled due to Foot-and-Mouth disease.

It's quite ironic really because the cancellation of the series last year was a good thing in a way because then the organisers had nearly a year in which to re-structure the whole series and re-launch it bigger and better than ever before.

Just look at the International Rally of Wales this weekend. There was an entry of 15 World Rally Cars. This was made up of 9 Subaru Impreza WRC's, 2 Toyota Corolla WRC's, 2 Hyundai Accent WRC's, 1 Ford Escort WRC and even a new Mitsubishi Lancer WRC !!!

And when drivers like Marcus Dodd, Johnny Milner, Mark Higgins, Johan Kressner, Steve Petch, Austin MacHale and Katsuhiko Taguchi are driving these cars, you really have to admire the work of the MSA in organising such a brilliant championship this year. Then there's more.

The Group N and the Super 1600 classes add even more variety to the series and when you add the like's of Gwyndaf Evans, Justin Dale, Rory Galligan, Guy Wilks, David Higgins, Tapio Laukkanen, Alistair Ginley, Oscar Svedlund, Nik Elsmore and Leon Pesticcio into the mix, you really have a quality British Rally Championship that we have been longing for for years.

And also this weekend a new event in Aldershot has been added as the series final round, bringing the number of rounds in the championship up to eight. All I can say is thanks so much to the MSA and the rallying contingent in Britain for giving us, the fans, such a well organised and quality championship

Info on the Scottish round can be found via www.brcweb.co.uk/welcome.html

There's usually a link to each event's homepage which will give you the details of the official starts, stages etc. If timetables logistics allow, i'd recommend seeing the cars off from the start and then hightailing it to a stage to see them in full chat.

As for the BRC. I agree the multi-class approach is the way to go. looking forward to the Trackrod in Sept & also working out if I can get to another round
