Hmmm, leading headline there, but basically nothing we already knew, Dominquez a Champcar driver this year and a F1 driver the next....
Hope he's right about the extra exposure helping Champcar too....how nice to have an outgoing driver thinking about that! |

Dominguez is definitely doing the right thing by staying in CC this year, Midland Jordan absolutely stunk it up today in testing. I know that no racer would turn down the opportunity to race at the highest level, but it will be hard to going to a team with little chance of running in the top ten.

Who knows, Dominguez may well be back in CC in 2007 anyways.

I was holding out hope that things with Dominguez weren't 100% firm and that something would happen to mess up things with Midland for 2006.

You may be right Omega99. I doubt that Dominguez will tear it up in F1, which likely means he will have a season or two before returning to the other side of the ocean.

Generally the lower F1 teams are used as stepping stones for the better teams. But maybe Dominguez's timing is questionable because with the new signings the top teams look solid for at least the next 3 years.
On the other hand, things in F1 change regularly so you never know. |

Is Mario really likely to be good enough to get a top F1 drive? And is Midland likely to be capable fo challenging for the top in F1 within the next few years? I'd say the answer to both questions is 'no', so I'm not sure Mari would be making the right move. At least he will do another ChampCar season first.

If Mario can make Midland shine, or make them exceed anyone's expectations, than it's possible that he can tet top rides.
That is the pressure that Mister Dominguez will have. |

PaddockTalk.com is now reporting that the Dominguez signing is a one sided story and that Jordan are only saying that talks have occurred. Depite a quote attributed to a Reuters story, I could not verify the source so call it rumour still.
Story here. http://www.paddocktalk.com/news/html...ticle&sid=4983 |

BBC are saying that he's rejected their Friday testing offer - they quote Mario sayign that he wants to concentrate on his competitive ChampCar ride, but make no mention of the idea that he couldn't afford the testing role - but is still in contention for a 2006 ride.

I tend to think that things won't go that well for Dominguez in F1, but you never know. Most of the guys going into F1 don't have higher level experience when it comes to actually doing a race. We've seen guys like Pantano, Gene, Pizzonia, Wilson, Sato, Massa, who obviously have talent struggle with actually getting the job done. Dominguez's racecraft is really strong, I think it's possible he would be well suited.

More confirmation from paddocktalk here: CCWS/F1: Mario Dominguez...
Sounds like Jordan is still talking to other people. |

Good that that's official - looks like he's off for 2006 though.

I don't want to have an unnecessary pop at Dominguez or start a *****ing session, but I fear he'll struggle in F1. He's never truly shone in CART, in my opinion.
