If he gets the seat, let me say it's a fully deserved achievement, given his 2005 season results.

Yes,he can certainly keep a car on the track.Which for a tail-end team is as much as they could hope for.

He did a better than expected job i think and therefore deserves another year to show what he can do - he reminds me a bit of 'Big Mo', someone who isn't necessarily spectacular but is a thorough professional and can be relied on to bring a car home..

I know there's another thread and as much as i like JV and took a sicky in order to watch his first F1 test at Silverstone in August '95, i really hope BMW put a real firebrand in their other car....

Mauricio Gugelmin, the Brazilian who won Brit F3 in '85 and front ran in F3000 for 2 years before being picked up by Leyton House for their F1 campaign in 88 to 91 and after a stint with Jordan spent a few season in Champcar...
Tiago reminds me of him because Mo often wasn't the quickest guy out there but he was reliable had good technical understanding and didn't make mistakes... |

There's still the Aguri Suzuki team to consider, but that will proabbly be Sato and Davidson if it happens, so in reality everyone is fighting for the second BMW.
Montiero deserves a second season, and should do pretty well. |

Glad that Montiero got the seat, I think that his consistency is just a good start, I'll be surprised if he doesnt start impressing with his speed now that he has a year under his belt.

Funny but this morning Pitpass still thinks Davidson is more likely for the second Midland :

It would be a little sad if Ant gets stuck in a Midland rather than a Honda B.

Yes, chances are that Aguri's team is the better bet, both short and long-term, if it happens.

It's funny, I compared Montiero to Big Mo before the season started. I don't think he's a future WDC, but he's certainly a capable driver.
It's funny though, most people seem to think that Montiero deserves a seat for 2006. I wonder what would happen if we started a poll that asked whether Bourdais should be in F1 and another poll asking whether Montiero deserves a seat. I'm almost certain that Montiero would win. I think a lot of people are of the impression that every driver in F1 is better than every driver out of F1. Also people associate Bourdais with Champ Car, whereas they don't so much with Montiero so he's not painted with the US OW stigma. |

The difference is Monteiro was prepared to take a seat at a lower order team in F1 - Bourdais isn't.

I'd like to have seen Bourdais (and a few others over the years) in F1 before now, I don't look down on CART drivers, I'd look kind of silly if I did considering I backed the idea of Albers coming from the DTM which is a Tin top series.
But back to Montiero, just because his most notable F1 achievement so far has been consistency/reliability doesn't mean that he wont get faster with experience and the confidence that he has a seat for another year. |
