The #25 on the Gitanes Ligier is certainly a number used by Ligier for many years.
...likewise the number on the Lotus. Regardless, a lot of work went into them, so a shame to see them decaying.

Came in from workshop yesterday afternoon for a breather. Bike ride with Mrs Delta then a cup of tea. I then remembered good friend told me about documentary on the Ferrari 312B which Paolo Barilla funded and raced at Monaco Historic 2016.
Reason for posting!!!.Without doubt this is the best motor racing documentary I have ever seen.A must if you can watch . Our very own Dudda makes an appearance as well.
BTW here is a Delta Paolo Barilla story.
I was in the next pit to him at Monaco in 2014. One of his mechanics mistakenly went off home with my HANS. When we unpacked truck back at home I released the HANS was missing. Just as an off chance I e mailed Monaco and they got in touch with his team and after a few days it was returned with a very nice letter apologizing.

Well that is the Green party side of Brighton but I think money rather than common sense would have talked there.

There are plenty of good dining options in and around Brighton. none of them involve taking your feet above terra firma. Mange tout in the North Laines is a good pit stop on a night out.

I think you will find Corgi were produced in the Mettoy Playcraft factory in Swansea.... or at least they were when I worked for them back in the 70's.

Well, yes they were, but now they are made in that unspeakable land far away but the HQ in England is in Margate.

If you worked for them, did you know their mobile shop, based on a Karrier Bantam remarkably like the one in their range? It is possible it was before your time.

I picked up a one-off model of it recently on eBay, made by an Italian who says he found pictures of the real one in a book. The pictures were taken in the Silverstone paddock of old, before the days of garages etc.

What a good change we had passing from crapy Circuit 24 to Scalec! Do you remember when they introduced the GT's with lights? We had to stop playing only when the palms of our hands were burned…

I've decided I hate internet shopping. I went on line for a gear cable for my bike, ended up with a pair of racing shoes and a new set of cleats as well. How on earth did that happen?

Long time ago I often made my own slot cars from bits obtained form various sources.

The vogue back then, for a while in the UK at least, was to use Keyser electric motors on the basis that they could be had with a shaft working at both ends and the size of the motor was often very appropriate for the production of 4wd slot racers.

If one was especially smart one could replace the windings on the commutator for a huge speed increase. I never quite got to that point - the things were fast enough for fun as it was.

Anyway, the other benefit of the Keyser motor was that one could simply solder some brass rod to it to form a chassis. Cosworth expanded the concept to the real world later ...

But I digress ...

I built a Lotus Cortina with that sort of chassis and included working brake lights. The round rear lights were perfect. One got some polythene tube of more or less the same diameter, added a bulb and a fairly simple 2 connector "switch" and somewhere in the design had a sealed section with the connector "switch" wires at one and and a bulb connected to them.

In the tube was a blob of mercury. The connectors were at the forward end of the tube. So under acceleration the blob would move away from the "switch"but lift off and it would flow forward, "make" the connection and the brake lights would come on.

Oh the innocent days when one was allowed to buy and play with mercury.

I think I may have obtained mine from the school chemistry lab. Great fun rolling it around wooden school desks ...

I agree.

My Hedge trimmer motor burned out. Spare motor about the same price as a new trimmer so decided a new one looked like a better choice.

Ended up with 2, battery powered, 5 times the base replacement cost.

How did that happen?

Superb. Thanks. My father was into slot cars in his youth, I got saclaxtric christmas '76. Still have it. I found this book years ago, probably at a jumble of some sort. . Not fully explored it to be honest, although did build a competitive 356 a few years ago.

Indeed! I’ve still got my Weller soldering gun from that era.... Slot car racing was huge then, with local clubs and member built circuits, plus big commercial 1/24 tracks. Hugely happy days.......
