I like the modern Kyalami, and it was GREAT with A1GP. And it's now owned by Porsche + there's no asphalt runoff nonsense anywhere (although Charlie Whiting apparently has visited the track recently )

Coach Ep said it before I could. The most likely outcomes would be that the WEC opener stays in Silverstone or moves to the Middle East. However I would still be in favour of an early start even if was Bahrain. Especially if it has any chance of adding an extra round to the calendar.

F1sp.. Autosport has also put out predictions (not quarantees) for 2016 dates and they have Monaco GP for May 29 conflicting with now-traditional spot for Test Day, preventing F1 drivers coming in, but also Montreal date for June 12 meaning Le Mans would have to be located to the following weekend. But that's them still just guessing I believe and dates can and will be moved around.

I do not see why the WEC should move around because Bernie says something. He is usually trying to do something else and the April start might just be a tactic to get what he wants and have nothing realy to do with dates. I sus pect the start of the F1 season will be as usual early March when the final calender comes out probably next December.

Perhaps the delayed F1 start could push a WEC schedule change. Wasn't it not too long ago where they talked about finishing the championship season at Le Mans? Maybe they could do a 9 hour at Kyalami and/or a 6 hour at Adelaide to open the season, do a race in the Middle East in Februrary, China in March, then move to Europe for the rest of the season.

What happened with that idea to move the championship from november to july, ending at Le Mans?

The winter calendar should never be spoken of again.

A) Off season (around the same as post-LM gap now) would be in summer so you'd have to get up to new-season preparations, deal/partnership makings and full year commitment decisions asap after Le Mans
B) Even bigger in-season gaps between events if you are panning 8-9 races in 9 months timeframe (season starts in September (as cited by the ACO last fall) and ends in June))
C) Issues with Le Mans entry process
D) Other regional championships and same cars in them would work at different pace in comparison to yours so the harmony there currently is would be broken
E) At which point do you bring out new models during the season and how do FIA homologations work out with different timeframe?
F) ACO says they want to make the events to have their own flavor and not just rely on Le Mans theme, yet this would just enhance the "Road to Le Mans" element and center everything even more around LM (as if that was needed)
G) If the championship title ends up being decided at Le Mans, nobody in the world cares if you win the championship there but not the race

NOT that the current calendar is ideal either, far from it, but at least it's better than that.

I thought the FIA had ruled that Le Mans traditional date was to be kept and F1 wasnt to clash with it?

Yeah the events itself cannot clash by (un)written rule, but if F1 comes up with date first then LM has to relocate me thinks.

The only GP that appears to have a fixed date is the Monaco GP all the rest seam to get moved at Bernie's whim. However LeMans is normalty the weekend nearest the 21st June and the ACO normally anounce the date the previous June well before Bernie sets F1's dates.

The LM date is no issue in any case as they'll just move possible conflicts around, it's the Test Day date that might collide. It already has annoying blockade with Detroit ICS&IMSA, doesn't need F1 in mix too

The test day is 2 weeks before the race so will move as well, it's not fixed to its current date.

Morand without Kairos but with Franck Muller and perhaps SARD hoping to field 2 cars 'in the second half of the season':

That was because of a clash with the phantom New York/New Jersey grand prix. After that fiasco the ACO insisted on the traditional date, if I remember correctly.

They need to fix the class introduction TV graphics, this kind of nonsense has been there for far too long as I remember seeing it at Le Mans couple of years ago already. From Spa:

'Professional drivers only'
Big fat lie. The idiot who wrote that obviously just looked at the class title without knowing anything about how it actually works.

Normal: 5500cc
Except if you are 8 liter Viper of course, so not true. At least in ALMS they put * next to the 5,5 liters and the commentators tended to tell why that was there, so it was more honest, but here...

Max fuel capacity: 90L
What's max about it when it's clearly not per BoP? It should be "base" or something, not that even that is really true...

Max speed: 290km/h
No.

Min weight: 1245kg
Same as with fuel capacity. Nothing minimum about 1245 when it's not.

The concussion of all that is that BoP is devil's creation, and it ruins everything.

It's one huge mistake (drivers), one that is probably what ACO aims for but isn't reality so they just keep it there anyway (the top speed) and three points that are defined by 'regulations' so they are technically not lying, even if they make no sense in real world.

ALMS did the same thing. Its a generalisation. If you know enough about the class you dont need the introduction. For casual viewers, its a starting point. All that needs changed are a few words on the graphics and it will please the bop-haters too.

As I stated on the post, ALMS put * next to the 5,5 liters and the commentators made clear what that * meant most of the time. Other than that I think the 1245kg was the only uh-oh they put out there, unlike here.

But yeah of course it needs just few words. Which is all I'm asking.

I think I also saw the Kolles car being referred as LMP1 P entry on screen at one point. So that's another anomaly to the fast growing 3000 names for LMP1 sub classes now, which were supposed to be merged
