3.4L for NA LMP1 engines and 2.0L for turbos is too much downsizing, don't you think?

No. There are already race proven models of these out there from the engine suppliers already. As well as petrol works units, and some rumored to be coming. The 2 Diesel full works programs are the only ones having to build new engines, and if anyone can afford that, it is them.

Really? So the Porsche 918 Uber Car does not have a 3.4L V-8 lump in it at the moment. The engine proven out by the RS Spyer LMP-2!
