L.P.
Think you may be getting to the heart of this here Horndawg - Michelin, having produced the index tyre for years, have focused on building something for Audi and Peugeot, and haven't been pushing elsewhere (the comments from them on the Acura situation are thought provoking) and development of tyres for petrol cars may have lagged a bit.

Looking at the LMS, with the diesels being a bit further reined in overall, Oreca being new to the 908, and the potential for Dunlop stealing a march I'm actually starting to get quite excited about not knowing with absolute certainty who's going to win on any given weekend.

I'd guess both are tweaked differently by each team, also taking into account the type of circuits in each championship.
Comments from Schnitzer boss Charly Lamm on DSC- the M3 at the test wasn't the 2010-spec LMS car, it was the 2009 ALMS test car- the new cars are still in the final stages of being built, and have new rear suspension, a new aero package and a different engine spec.

The problem was a misfire caused by an electrical problem- Lamm desrcibed it as 'a problem with engine fuel management' Apparently they could trace the cause but not solve it at the track
