Rubens posted the best time in the first practice session with TGF taking the second spot and the Macs in 2nd and 3rd.
Encouraging surprises, Heidfeld in 9th and Raikkonen 12th. Let's hope Alesi's 22nd is not a foreshadowing of a repeat of last year.

Rubinho was fastest in the second session too! I believe in him. He will prevail.

And it's good to see Bunsen dragging along the bottom. Hope he stays there.

What do you have against Jensen Button? He certainly proved himself to be an apt driver last year. Time will tell how good he can really be.

Anyway, we'll probably have to wait till tomorrow to see where they really all lie, when everyone is going flat out.

Bunsen is a hollow little PR machine who has said in public that the part he likes best about being an F1 driver is the money, who has said that the only thing wrong with TGF's try at ramming Jacques off the track in 1997 was "it didn't work" - and who brags about his winning pickup line "I'm going to pick out a flat in Monaco, want to come?" I was always taught that such throwing around of dollar signs was vulgar and showed you are not used to nice things.

After one season which may very well have been just good luck, he is hardly proved to be Senna. I think he needs a really bad year to bring him back to earth before he becomes Irvine.

Your perspective is interesting. Most interviews I've read seem to suggest he's an affable young man who enjoys the rewards of what he happens to be good at. And from watching him in FFord and F3, I really think he is very good.

Marshal,

Don't bother because Liz also forgot to mention that Button isn't South American and therefore in her opinion doesn't actually qualify as a driver at all.

I think that the hype around Button is no different to that which surrounded Barichello when he first came to F1. I just hope that where RB has become lack lustre JB will keep on trying. Mind you RB's times at Melbourne may indicate a change in this driver's attitude. OTOH maybe not.

Interesting point about Barichello Peter, 'cos he was fantastic (at times) in Junior Formulae too, but seems to lack that spark to take him to the very top. Either that or it could be that this lad in the Ferrari team with him might be quite good

Still at least Rubens is Brazilian eh Liz

I know were REALLY gonna find out how fast people are in the qual session, but a few things to note

1. Where ARE the Prosts?? WHAT have I been saying all along??

2. BAR, Benetton, Jags etc.

3. Jos Verstappen

4. Fernando Alonso (again, WHAT have I been saying?? That Minardi is a reasonable car, y'know!)

5. That Schumacher barrel-roll!!

As always Liz...If there is any thing negative to say! YOU will say it...Jenson is a fine pilot, the press have a way of taking what any driver say's completly out of context..

Well I'm sure you read all that stuff about how affable etc. Bunsen is in a British magazine. What else are they going to say? Our local papers focused on Jacques today although he did b---r all yesterday in either session ... it was all about how he's keeping a low profile "to concentrate on the race." (OR: to keep from being asked why his engagement to a well known Aussie is now in the dumpster?)

I don't like him, but that is only my opinion. If he were my kid he would have better manners. Or else he'd run away from home.
