MolsonBoy should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I am full of it....

Yes I am full of speculations today. My media friend me told me the following:

Mo Nunn will run two cars in CART with Tony Kanaan and Bruno Junqueira.

Memo G will get a ride with Herdez Competition for 2003. Memo appearently has a Mexican heritage.

Andretti/Green will split the team and have Dario with Motorola sponsorship in CART.

And the one that just won't go away is Paul and Jacques together on Team Players.

Remember that the silly season is stranger than fiction!

Memo was born in Mexico, but his citizenship is American. His Dad was working in Mexico at the time (or something like that).

So how many cars next year?

And is Mo Nunn secretly a Brasilian?

Secretly Italian would be my guess.

All the dealing is being done behind closely guarded doors, so nobody knows anything for sure. But I would guess from the bits I have put together which are probably no more accurate than anyone else's bits, 23 to 25 cars.

To quote Pook's interview with ESPN:

"We will not be going over 22 cars because, A) we can't fit them in many of the paddocks for our urban circuits, and B) when we travel, it requires a third 747."

Hmmm, would Mo Nunn race only one car though? It's kinda of waste of resources? And since you only have 1 set of data coming in from racing/qualifying, wouldn't it make you less competitive?

I think they do. Television features I've seen regarding the transportation of teams to Europe/Japan have shown the cars being loaded onto 747's, and wasn't one parked just off-course at Cleveland last year?

I think Pook in saying he only wants 22 cars is not really a transportation or paddock issue but at that time a more realistic number of possible teams in 2003. I believe he stated that number before the incentives were offered. If CART gets 22 cars then Pook has done a good job. If he get more than 22 cars then he has done a great job.

I know that Toronto and Vancouver can handle up to 26 cars in the paddocks and pits. Does any know the of any urban races that would have a space problem?

The 22 cars bit is because they can only fly in 22 cars and spares on two aircraft so chris willonly guarentee 22 cars to overseas races. he said when he announced the incentives that they could carry more cars at the home races but that there would be a limit on franchises. This means they will allow 24-26 starters at home but the season franchises for the away races are limited to the first 22 cars to be committed to the season.I guess if someone paid their own expenses for the away race they could enter. something tells me next year is going to be very good racing and a very full field.

But why would somebody wish to field a team that cannot really fight for the championship? Say a new team is right in the thick of the championship fight, when CART travels overseas and they must stay home? Especially when only the first 20 cars get the financial incentives offered by CART.

The opportunity is there for sponsors to come into the series if they have a marketing strategy for the Americas and not Europe or Australia. Pook's vision is for the NAFTA trade area not the whole planet. Some currentsponsors have complained that they have no markets outside the Nth American continent. Pook will limit the overseas races to 3 or 4 max for this reason.

Well Blair/Coyne had a car that couldn't compete for the championship last year

It's better than nothing isn't it? (for the team) and they might be gaining experience to go for a full season, when they can get a franchise.

Whatever... for many people big plane = 747, weather it's an MD-11, A340 or DC-10

It was noticably absent this year, which produced a few comments about further sponsorship, all apparently unfounded.
