NASCAR name

Why are the NASCAR based series in Europe (ASCAR), South Africa (SASCAR), and CASCAR in Canada, not called NASCAR, if they are pretty much the same rules (i think).

When the NASCAR's raced in Australia and were promoted by Bob Jane at the Thunderdome, the series was known as the Australian NASCAR Championship, but since Bob stopped promoting it it has been called V8 Stock Cars and now Closed Sports Cars!!!!

Does it have something to do with licensing, that Australia paid to use the NASCAR name yet others therefore can't use it?

The NASCAR name belongs to NASCAR. They are pretty particluar on how it is used. Here in the US, they have had to warn several organizations who were building race tracks not to use statements such as "a NASCAR track". The thought there being that it indicated NASCAR was planning to race there after the track was built, which wasn't always the case.

The name NASCAR is an accronym for North American Stock Car Auto Racing, so for CASCAR, ASCAR and SASCAR to use the name NASCAR would not be correct. Well maybe for CASCAR, but we know how the Canadians want to maintain their separate identity.

But the short answer is that the name is owned by NASCAR and other organizations can't use it without the permission of NASCAR.

Lee Roy, NASCAR stands for National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing.

But they still are very particular in the fact- That when this name is used---NASCAR (Frances) is getting a cut of the money.
