1988 Rondeau
In the 'Le Mans Photos' thread, there is a link to the great photo site below.
http://perso.libertysurf.fr/xplemier...umansauto.html I was having a gawp at the 1988 Jags when I saw the umistakable shape of a Rondeau. To my untrained eye it looks virtually identical (apart from the colour scheme) to the 1980 winning car. Can anyone give some details about the story behind this entry. Is the car basically the same? According to Stefan's Register it completed a very creditable 271 laps, and was non-classified rather than a non-finisher. Not bad if it was an 8 year old design. Is this is a similar tale to the Kremer 917 which entered the 1981 race? |

Oops, a bit more research at Stefan's site has shown that it was a regular C2 contender in the 80s. I have always thought it was an odd looking thing, (huge windscreen, tiny front wheels), but it must have been a good design to stay competitive for 8 years.
Still any information about it would be appreciated. |

I've got one rather distant photo of this car at Mulsanne Corner, taken on Sunday. It was, of course, the last "finisher", but was unclassified. My notes tell me it lost a door at least once during the race. The car was an M379C and if my understanding of the French notes in the '88 programme is right, the car was effectively identical to the 1980 winning Rondeau.
