Corvette Racing won't compete in GT2 as a factory

(well duh, GT2 is intended for privateers)

However, Bill Riley (of Riley & Scott fame) IS working on a GT-2 Corvette for Lou Gigliotti and they expect to run two cars in the '08 Sebring 12hrs. (ref: DSC's report of Scott Atherton's speech - copyright mat'l and I can't provide a link to the subscribed page).

What are the chances of the new GT2 Corvette being built by Riley being eligible for LM next year and what chance do they have of getting an application to race accepted? Remember the Pug was a new car and their application was accepted for two cars! It would be nice for them to be able to attend if the car is ready and homologated to LM specs! Then we could have Corvettes in GT1 & GT2! Just like Ferrari used to do it.

Ok maybe I miss quoted SW.

A big part of the info that is NOT said, do to not giving out future plans.

I do know in a few minor conversations that I have had with Corvette big shots that Corvette racing would love to run LM24 UNRESTRICTED, but we all know that will never happen.

I am sure more info will come out this week at Road Atlanta about the future of Corvette, and ALMS for 2008 as well.

From Laguna thread;

could it be the last apearnce of the works C6.R in ALMS ?

No. Although it could be very close to it, depending on next years competition or lack thereof.

if there are no new comers to ALMS GT1, why not moving to Europe and do some LMS and FIA GT races ? after all Prodrive/AMR, from Europe did many american trips !

certainly, what WRX says is right; they should have done LMS/Spa 24 this year. And certainly should next year. What is left to gain in ALMS?
But this is discussed elsewhere.
O.K.
While I cannot speak for Corvette racing; Lets take into account a few things. And please do not make this an us vs. you, as it is not! The United States is Corvettes largest market. We have heard from S. Wesoloski that they also take their customer programs as serious as possible so as to not effect either adversely. link Also it has been observed that LAA had very robust support from P&M this year, up to and including driver support (which included Spa). And it has been suggested that if the ALMS program is not a full time effort in 08 that LAA will be basically a semi-works team with both Ollies in a second C6.R. So depending on their home series and not stepping all over their European customers we very well may see a very large presence of Corvette Racing on the Continent in 08.

Subaru_WRX_STi has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
OK for sure the ALMS or any other american sports car series, is the right place for a factory Corvette effort, but when I said moving to Europe, I meant that GM must do some races againt a fierce competition in both european series, in preparation of Le Mans !

yet again its a fantastic season for Corvette, winning Spa 24h and so close to the GT1 drivers title in FIA GT with Carsport Holland/Phoenix

The Corvette Racing team won't ignore the Riley-built GT2 effort in 2008. Riley is top-notch, but why should the P & M team throw it away?

That reminds me of a Vette from NFS Most Wanted that had a very similar paintscheme...

Looks badass, me like.

I like the #4 with the black wheels on it, they should have done a set of yellows for the #3. Probably never run them on the cars though, heat retention(?).

Is that the reason why teams dont normaly run with colored wheels ?

Makes sense though . Also makes one wonder why Micheal Caine ran their McLaren F1 GTR's with dayglo orange wheels ?

"But at the end of the day, this is a hell of a marketing effort we've put together and we are going to continue with it."

This is the last sentence from an interview with Doug Fehan from this article at Americanlemans, com!

http://www.americanlemans.com/News/Article.aspx?ID=3808

Does this mean Corvette will be back in ALMS next year?

Pratt & Miller also run the Caddies CTS-V in Speed World Challange GT, and the Pontiac GXPr in Grand AM GT.

So now they have a bunch of Caddies sitting around collecting dust, also.

Hmmm Maybe I should buy a slightly used P&M caddy for racing in NASA Super Unlimited??
