Minardi to use Asiatech!

The website: www.grandprix.com is reporting that Minardi has done a deal for Asiatech engines next season!

It will be interesting to see what revamping the design does for the Peugeot engine they're based on, one can hope they car be sufficiently powerful and reliable to give Minardi the run they so richly deserve.

The article points out the potential moves within Prost as well, which just shows how difficult it is for those struggling not to be right at the back of F1 these days.

Ok, guys this is in very bad taste... not a funny joke! Im serious. Everyone knows that Minardi is getting Ferrari engines... and current ones... not year-olds! Alright, now that we understand eachother, I hope this never happens again. In all seriousness, are our high hopes for Minardi in the process of being totally and utterly shattered here??? God, I hope not!

Asiatechs are certainly better than the Cosworths they've got at the moment. And they are free. And, with Mr Yoong and his money, this means more money for Paul Stoddart and the team, something which they don't currently have.

To be honest, I don't think Minardi-Asiatechs are such a bad thing afterall...

I agree with DNQ. Although Ferrari's would have been great, they would have been very expensive to run, even with Yoong there.

Asiatechs might be underpowered, but are surely better than the Cosworths. They are also free too, and come with Scalabroni, who is an ex-Ferrari/McLaren man.

There is no evidence in the article whatsoever to say that Minardi will use the Asiatech engines - I'd say wait until the weekend to find out for sure.

If it does indeed turn out to be true, then you have to look at it as certainly better than using the same old Zetecs AGAIN - and also look at it as a chance to score a point or two in 2002.

I couldn't say it better. And I think Prost will get Asiatech too.

Asiatech has let it be known that they intend to field an all-new engine next year, not a update of the old Pug.

Prost seems to be confident of holding onto the 3rd Ferrari. I'd say this is a likely rumour-but as M-fan says, we'll know this weekend.

That article is purely speculative - there is no hard evidence to say that Minardi will be using Asiatechs. Popular opinion still seems to say that they'll be using Ferrari engines next year.

Well, Scalabroni said 4 gps ago that there was a plan with prost, he didn't mentioned minardi that day, but he said that maybe 2 teams.
Also Ferrari speculated about providing engines for one team, theirs.
BTW, which is current Minardis' engine?

Oh, sounds exciting... not!

And this was the team that told us they would be using works engines about 6 months ago with certain members of this forum saying that a deal had been done with Honda of all suppliers

Then Yoong came onto the scene, presumably to pay for Ferrari engines but, alas it was not so. Of course the Asiatech's better than a historic F1 engine but it's still pretty much the bottom of the pile.

Having said that, the Arrows wasn't that bad early season, and they've been rather unlucky to only get one point. Perhaps Minardi will take a couple of points next season?

Hopefully there will be at least two doughnut teams next year anyway

Actually the engines are named European.
Fondmetal boss, late Gabriele Rumi sold the team to European Aviation´s boss Stoddart
