I've read numerous rumors that AMT is a pseudonym for some Japanese engine company that is considering entering F1. Toyota, Hyundai and Subaru were all mentioned

It should not suprise me if Toyota were behind it, to get some more data for their 2002 start.
What i have heard that also the Director of some major Asian carcompany put his money in this project. But they are doing it for a reason. Al the money and expencis they put in have to got a reason. I asked this question also several times on other forums but never got a straight answer. So if anybody knows it for sure, maybe the smoke can clear up around this mysterious motorsuplier. |

Just for clarification...Hyundai is a Korean car company...
I heard that the sponsors behind the Asiatech project is the collaboration between a few very prominent companies of Japan, and that Toyota's involvement in it would means they had a chance to take a look at the Peugeot engine while building their own V10..giving their project a big boost! But i think it is just some engineering companies, or one of the major engine tuning companies of Japan, with big buck backings that are in this project...sort of like a discreet and less well known version of Mugen... |

They use the old peugeot engine don't they ?
I think they are similar to Mugan and that other engine supplier who used to use renaults engines, who for the life of me I cannot remember the name, was it playlife or something like that ? |

I don't think it is all that mysterious. It's just that nobody cares enough to come up with the info.
If Im not mistaken it has some connections with Sony money. Matsushida heir to the Sony-fortune is in it among others. Technical director is Enrique Scalabroni and they have indeed bought the Peugeot F1-facilaties. Thats about it. Mostly a businessproposition. When the results aren't coming, they will not hestate to abandon Arrows and F1 alltogether. Don't expect any longterm involvements. Billy> were you hinting at Supertech? Benetton called theirs Playlife, but that was merely badge-engineered Last edited by Quino; 13 Apr 2001 at 20:55. |

The Toyota rumour has been around for awhile-it certainly wouldn't surprise me that there was some clandestine link.

What I've read about this is that AMT=Asian Motor Trends and one of the Principals is the son of Sony founder A. Morita (and I think Honda's son - of Mugen fame - is also involved). Their idea is to develop the Peugot engine into a front line unit for sale to all the "engineless" teams. If I remember, F. Briatore is also a manager in the company. I think the story is on AtlasF1.
