You do realise that the owners of Hampton Downs (well, the field anyway) have stated that they do not need any motorsport at the circuit. They have based a lot of their projections simply on the corporate side of things i.e. ride/drive days, client freebies etc and testing. They are not bothered whether they get V8's, superbikes or whatever.

Yep, over 11,000 and there was not enough accommodation. Just imagine if it was double that number.

Not over 11,000. more like 30,000 including support crews. They NEED a bed also. So.... as motorsport fans dont tend to have an entourage for each ticket holder its a far better picture than you depict. Remember hotels etc are booked out for the cycle challenge months in advance, and people need to stay the night (or more) coz theyre preparing to race. A percentage of motorsport fans will go home that night. For really big events there are always loads who offer lodging each year for the cycle challenge to cater for excess entries, as we are a town full of holiday homes remember.

Ah anyway, time will tell, and they do seem to be gearing up for drags and motorbikes. First event: National Summer Drags Jan2 with reserve day 3rd for rain

A Kea camper van could accommodate the spectators for that event.

Do you really think there was 30,000+ people in Taupo just for the cycle race?

I stand by my comment about the NZV8's earlier this year, NO accomodation was available in Taupo or Rotorua. How would Taupo cope with the crowd numbers of a V8 Supercar round? which would be more than the cycle challenge. One would think you had a vested interest in it RamirezNZ.

Yeah but if AVESCO needs somewhere to have a V8 race they can't just ignore them, especially if its because its "too far away". Good position for Hampton Downs management to be in, "We dont need you, but you need us"

I know, I was just discussing that with my two kiwi roommates. I remember driving around dunedin thinking some of the streets would be great for a street race. Probably would never happen because of the cost, but??

Rotorua and Taupo have heaps of hotels, etc. I can't believe the accommodation issue would be that bad.
