I just remember falling in love with the TS020 immediately. The shape, the engine note, and that chevron livery just made it look so damn sexy! |

That doesn't really break the mold, as outside of the diesels and the 2011 "grandfathered" (and now retired) LMP1s, it's all basically 3.4 flatcrank V8s outside of the adventurous few that have run 2.0T inline fours (and the disastrous AM 2.0T I6). Only unique part is it's hybrid system. Not saying that it can't work, but the ACO's decision to standardize on the old LMP2 engines with larger restictors sort of has killed the creativity, hasn't it? At least with the "big engines" we had V8s, V10s and V12s. I'm not against the "green" movement as far as production relevant innovation, but isn't racing supposed to be somewhat amoral and anathema to "everyday" driving--outside of the autobahn, name one road where it's legal to do 200mph in an electric hybrid car? With that cynical rant out of the way, I'm just a little disappointed that Toyota isn't pushing the envelope a bit on the engine front, but then again, they have a proven engine, though I'm not 100% sure that a flatcrank V8 is the way to go. That being said, in '08 a Porsche RS Spyder finished well into the top 10 with a 3.4 V8, and in '10 Strakka finished in the top 5 overall with a 3.4 V8 powered ARX-01. Of course, I don't get what the complaints are about inline fours sounding like crap--what do you think a flatcrank V8 is? Two inline fours joined together in a common block and sharing a common crankshaft. I never got that complaint... |

When a turbo I4 engine revs at 6000 rpm, 200 explosion/combustions happen per second and that noise gets damped by the turbo. When a NA V8 engine revs at 10500 rpm, 700 explosions/combustions happen per second and that noise goes straight into the exhaust. That is the key difference! |

I liked P12 because it was simple but it's nice to see they stick with old traditions

I'm fine with a 3.4 V8 if that is indeed what it ends up being. The Rebellion cars have managed success with it, after all it was the top gasoline finisher at Le Mans last year. I'm sure Toyota/TTE will have their own modifications to it as well. They hybrid system is undoubtedly the "x-factor" for this car. Which wheels will it be driving and let's see it in action already! If it's implemented well enough I can see it contesting the overall win. |

Still no surprise. The first real "news" will be the names of two team mates of Buemi and details about the hybrid system (front vs rear wheels, battery vs supercaps vs flywheel, ...).
