ALMS 2005 Entries
I thought we should have a thread for possible, or confirmed 2005 entries for the ALMS. I'll kick it off with some talking points.
LMP1: Two Champion Audi R8's and two Dyson Lola's for next year. Intersport's P1 Lola tub is shot. Will they have something new? Two Courage-Elans (Don Panoz rumour)? Creation at select events. Autocon? LMP2: Sorry, haven't kept up on it. A little help please. GTS (GT1): Two factory C6R's have been confirmed. The NBC Laguna Seca broadcast mentioned that we may see two privateer C5R's? One ACEMCO Saleen S7R with a second car at select races. The Viper again? We have heard that Care Racing would like someone in the ALMS to campaign one or more of their Ferrari 550's. Rafanelli and Krohn-Barbour have been rumoured possibilities. GT (GT2): I assume most of the current players. Someone has purchased a Panoz Esperante, but if Panoz doesn't run their car the field wont really change. I know I missed some things and please correct any errors. Your thoughts? |

In LMP2: I see the following
Intersport with a new Lola B05... Miracle with one Courage, possibly 2, or the one Courage and the Lola B2k/40 like they campaigned ant the end of the season with the Bucknum people on board with them... Van der Steur returning with their Lola.... |

Surely Carsport America will have to retire the Viper after this year. Mind you, with the collapse of the Pagani project, one rather wonders what Carsport is for, now.

If the Maserati is allowed in ACO events next year I wouldn't be suprised to see at least one car competing in the ALMS.

I'm not sure about Intersport and the B160. They have stated that the current tub flexes too much due to excess damage and repairs. It's not as quick as it should be. So if they run a B160 they'll need a new tub.

Dont forget, with a few changes the B05/40 can be run as a P1 car...

If they went that route, would they just run the old Lola again in P2? Can't see them buying two brand new Lola B05/40's. They're kinda pricey! I could be wrong though.
But you would be the one to have the insight. |

From the news we have read about Lola, I thought thatthey said there were two sold in North America and one in Europe...
Please verify that this is true.... |

Just looked on the Lola thread...
It is two in Europe and one in America...which tells me it is Intersport... |

I can't say I'm surprised. They've been running the Viper for longer than they anticipated they would have to, and it's clear now that the Pagani will never arrive. Perhaps they could persuade Dodge/Chrysler to produce a GTS version of the new Viper, or build one of their own, but I don't know what kind of facilities they have.

i've changed my mind, i think that intersport will get rid of their B160 for a couple of reasons. the car has not been reliable and there are the problems of flexing issues mentioned above. i really think that that car is probably done.
LMP2 is a class custom built for intersport, and i think that they have realized that and LMP2 is where they will go in the future. judging by the performance of the Courage this year (which actually outqualified the intersport Lola B160 Judd at Laguna Seca) it seems as though well-sorted LMP2 cars will be able to compete with the LMP1 cars. the best thing for intersport to do for 2005 would be to run Jon Field and Duncan Dayton in a B05/40 in LMP2 and run Clint Field and Robin Liddell in the B2K/50. they should run the new Judd XV in both cars (a mildly updated version of the very powerful KV variant run by intersport in the B2K/50 2004). the benefit of running two cars with the same engine is huge and the XV promises to be a very good engine for the LMP2 class. running both cars in the same class will also allow Intersport to run Pirellis on both cars, another big advantage. this decision would give intersport the best platform for the future, allowing for cost reduction, streamlining of operations, options for expansion in the future, as well as a car that can be competitive in international competition in 2005. intersport can go to lemans next year with their B05/40 and be confident that they can defend their title. intersport can run both of these cars in this configuration (B05/40 in LMES, LeMans, and ALMS, B2K/50 in ALMS) through 2006, and after that could purchase another B05/40 for Clint if they so choose. so after all that, i'm updating my list LMP1 2x Champion Audi R8 2x Dyson Lola B160 AER 2x Courage C60 Hybrid Elan LMP2 2x Miracle Courage AER 1x Intersport Lola B05/40 Judd 1x Intersport Lola B2K/50 Judd 1x Van der Steur Lola B2K/40 AER GT1 2x Corvette C6-R 2x Risi Maserati MC12 2x Rahal Aston Martin DB9 2x Barbour Ferrari 550 1x ACEMCO Saleen S7-R GT2 2x Alex Job Porsche 911 GT3-RSR 2x Flying Lizard Motorsports 911 GT3-RSR 2x The Racers Group 911 GT3-RSR 2x J-3 Racing 911 GT3-RSR 2x Panoz Esperante eGT-LM 1x BAM! 911 GT3-RSR 1x Petersen White Lightning 911 GT3-RSR 1x PK Sport 911 GT3-RSR obviously an area for concern though is LMP1... if the courage panoz deal doesn't pan out or someone doesnt play ball in LMP1 we could have 2 teams in LMP1 which spells trouble if one team can't do a race for any reason. |

Note, Risi didn't have enough budget to run all the races with ONE 360GTC... so where is the money coming from for TWO Maserati?
Rahal - Supposedly factory only for the Aston next year. Last edited by Fogelhund; 19 Oct 2004 at 21:53. |

heres my list
LMP1 2x Champion Audi R8 2x Dyson Lola B160 AER 2x Courage C60 Hybrid Elan 1X Autocon Riley 1X Intersport Something(Lola, Riley or something else?) LMP2 2x Miracle Courage AER 1x Intersport NEW Lola Judd 1x Race Car Company Lola Millington 1x Van der Steur or Race Car Company Lola Millington GT1 2x Corvette C6-R 2x Maserati MC12(Rahal, Raffy, Barbour, or Risi?) 1x or 2x Ferrari 550 2x Factory Saleen S7R's 1x ACEMCO Saleen S7R (2 at Sebring and PLM) 1x Carsport Viper(they said they will be back next year) GT2 2x Alex Job Porsche 911 GT3-RSR 2x Flying Lizard Motorsports 911 GT3-RSR 2x The Racers Group 911 GT3-RSR 2x J-3 Racing 911 GT3-RSR 2x Panoz Esperante eGT-LM 1x BAM! 911 GT3-RSR 1x Petersen White Lightning 911 GT3-RSR 1x ferrari 360 (risi?, or JMB America?) i could be off in GTS, but i really think that there will be a factory Saleen effort next year. you have to have faith!!! I also know that if the ACO allows the Mazza's to compete, they will be here. My guess is that the team(s) that dont get the Mazza deal, will run Ferrari 550's or 575's. I would have to think that barbour , risi or Raffy would be perfect choices. Rahal would be an outside chance, since he may have already signed the Aston Martin deal(for 2006 alms season) remember that Prodrive is going to run select races (Le Mans, PLM, + a few others) next year, then hand it off to the 3 Factory Supported teams |

Isn't ACEMCO effectively a Saleen factory team already?

no. they said that they were at the begining, but they have "went their own way" with a bunch of things. they now have the elan engine in the car, and not the saleen ford v8 one. i think the factory wasnt supporting them enough..

You hear so much regarding rumors here and there in every class every year regarding the ALMS. I find the only way to really know who shows up is to look at it at the end of the season.
Some never show up, some quit after Sebring, some do just a few events. Its totally unpredictable. |

regarding risi's funding, if maserati wants a quality team, they will give risi the cash needed to run as risi is the best it is when it comes to ferrari products in north america imo. and i agree with you about the aston martins running the alms in 2006 and not 2005, so here's the updated list.
