MrLipid should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Spirit of Speed 1957 Forum at Race Sim Central

Broadsword Interactive, the folks who developed Spirit of Speed 1937, are working on a sequel. And appear to be quite serious about it. They have set up a forum here and are asking for input from those who are passionate about sim racing. Suggestions other than "make it just like GPL except 1957" (which they have already heard more than once) would be appreciated.

Making it good might be a nice place to start.

God yeah! SOS 1937 was terrible.

There are now rumors, posted in the Race Sim Central forum, that there will be a patch for SOS '37. Said patch will allegedly be released around Christmas (this year) at the Broadsword website. Said patch upgrades the graphics engine to DirectX 8.1 and improves the physics. Bit late to boost sales for a 1999 title but sure to be appreciated by those who've already purchased a copy. Probably more of a trial run for SOS '57 than anything else.

Not too hot if you own the Dreamcast game, though. Unless you're a bedroom coder who can convert the game using the Win CE OS. Which I can't.

A legitimate point. Once a console game ships, that is pretty much it.

Then again, releasing a patch for a game that is now as old as SOS is pretty rare. The last time I saw a developer continue work on such an old title was the release of a Direct3D patch for Outlaws.

Believe it or not, some folks over at Race Sim Central are dashing out to buy a copy of the PC version of SOS in expectation of the imminent release of the patch. And if the patch is not released, these folks will be in the unique position of having waited years to be disappointed by an unpatched SOS.

Well, I have a copy of SofS lying around somewhere, but I'm afraid I never played it very much. If the patch does come out, I will certainly try it, but as an addict of GPL (converted from SCGT three months ago!), it's gonna have to go some to keep me away from that!

Hmm. GPL is a serious addiction. Perhaps the most serious in sim racing. Then again, a lot of serious GPLers were happy to spend some leisure time with EA's Porsche Unleashed.

Assuming the SOS patch comes out and makes a substantial difference, it might be worth taking the old crates for a spin...if, for nothing else, the wonderful '30s era music.

Don't get me wrong, Mr. L., if the physics of SOS had been as good as GPL, I'd probably still be playing that now, instead of GPL. I love the cars from that era - but, then again, I love those '67 F1 cars as well. They're all a damn site more fun to look at than the modern day equivalent. And how anyone can compare driving GP3 or GP4 or whatever with GPL is beyond me!

I've actually been trying to lay my hands on a copy of Nascar Heat for ages, so I could play the Spirit of... conversion - no luck though.
