Karthikeyan to Williams? Possible
Williams are losing BMW and Hewlett-Packard (which is a sizeable chunk of their money).
Karthikeyan has sponsors that could pretty much replace this income. Is it a possibility and could it work ? Considering that Williams 2006 is going to be a midfield team at best, it might be a handy option to keep the team fiscally sound. |

The thinking might make sense but I reckon there is no chance that it would happen.
BUT... |

Well, at the moment, its kind of a sideways step for Karthikeyan - one tail ender car to another, whats in it for him?

Well i think it would be very risky to not seek alternate sponsors even with Buttons money.

Williams running a paydriver would be quite an indication of how far they have fallen in the last 2 years. Although he's a nice guy, and has kept his head above water in F1, I doubt that NK has the ability to race for a topline team like Williams. That said, if Frank were to sign him, I'd belive that it wasn't just about the money, as Frank is so good at spotting underappreciated drivers and giving them their chance.

Yeah, I don't think it is going to happen. Out of Rosberg and Davidson I would suspect. And I don't think Williams can lose with either option!

There's nothing to suggest Williams are short on money yet, they may have lost HP and BMW but they're hardly going announce new sponsors until the current contracts are up.

Again, only Frank and Patrick know the true situation. It's possible that hiring Davidson (as a British driver) or Rosberg (a fairly bankable name) will avoid them loising too much sponsorship from Jenson's U-turn, so they may not need Narain's money.

If Williams are going into next year thinking that they're going to be a midfield team at best. Might as well pack up and go home. We don't even know if Williams are really in financial difficulty. Sure they lost HP, but HP was on a contract. Unless they have some performance clause, that means HP would have to pay out the contract, which is likely to mean that Williams would allow it only because they already have someone else lined up. Of course, maybe I'm just being naive, but then other people might just be a bit too pessimistic.
Also, don't forget the money saved on salary this year, plus Button's donation. |

Karthikeyan may have sponsors, but I can't believe that they have anything close to what BMW or HP (let alone both) contributed to Williams. He's not a bad driver. Bringing in $20-30M from Button and say $10M from a pay driver might not be a bad stratagy for Williams in 2006. Monteiro seems to have some ability to bring money and he's a pretty good driver, perhaps he'd be a better choice?

No, I think not. I suspect the shortlist for 2006 runs Pizzonia, Rosberg and Davidson, and I suspect that young Rosberg will get the nod.

The biggest problem at the moment for Sir FW is Petrobras. Last year they wanted Pizzonia, BWM wanted Heidfeld and we all know what happened. But now with BMW gone, Petrobras might have a say...

Mr. K isn't quite ready for prime time, much less Williams.

Although Karthikeyan has not really improved ot the point that one may have expected, I think a fair whack of credit needs to go to Tiago.
He really has been rather good. |
