no 2006 seat for Karthikeyan
Reuters is reporting Karthikeyan couldn't raise enough money from his backers to buy a Midland seat, so he'll be testing on the sidelines in 2006.

He's said himself testing with a bigger team may be more positive than racing down the back

I thought he was quite impressive, given the machinery, last year. Hope he comes back with a better team

This is one thing that gets me.
He has obvious talent. He did in British F3, but he can't grab a drive. To do what he did with the Jordan was pretty spectacular, but nothing. |

I think Monteiro did better than him such that I am not overly surprised. One thing is clear in my mind though, he certainly deserves a seat more than Sato does.

Both Monteiro and Karth... are excellent drivers, IMHO.

The thing is Midland is the only team left now that is still taking pay-drivers... so if Karthikeyan isn't first up with the funds then he'll be left out in the cold.

I'm amazed no team signed him up,after waht they said about him at the start of the year, that he is a fantastic driver, well i knew he wasnt that great and he would only last 1 year in f1.

All the reports I've seen make no mention of money being a problem for him, but I ssupect that's an attempt from his PR people to try and spin coverage away from the fact that he bought his 2005 drive? He looked promising early in the season, but the reality is mroe that Montiero took a while to get up to speed, and was dominant from about Monaco onwards. Commercially he would be a good Williams 3rd driver, he's probably in the same league as Pizzonia, and who knows how he could do with a year of solid testing in a car which handles more like an F1 car?

I think if he gets Williams' 3rd seat, he would benefit more than Pizzonia did, as this year William's 3rd driver will tke part in Friday practice sessions and last year, Pizzonia was out of the car for at least 2 months before the Monza GP. |

Getting your name in the spotlight on Fridays hasn't helped anybody else, no matter how well they've done. I doubt either Pizzonia or NK will be back in a racing seat - neither of them are good enough. The idea that Ferrari would want him for anything other than commercial reasons is laughable.

Commercial reasons are precisely why Ferrari might want him in the future

If Ferrari have the Marlboro money they won't need Karthikeyan... Besides, there's this long queue of Räikkönen, Rossi and co. having to drive in 2007.

Rather than Midland/Jordan not being impressed, I'd simply suggest Colin Kolles is saying this now because Karthikeyan won't be there.

Given the way they've each conducted themselves in the past, I'd be inclined to side with NK on this. |

if NK had a fair offer he would be racing with midland. Why would NK say he cannot afford the seat when he can. Kolles is furious because NK made the cost of the seat public and made them look like bunch of money sucking vampires..Which they are !

Sad to see him leave F1, he was quick and seemed to have his feet on the ground still, unlike some of the other drivers.

He was doing well up until the point that Kolles became more involved in the team. The first third of the season, I though he was terrific. After that, he looked a bit glum. For whatever reason, Kolles seemed to immediately really, really dislike Karthikeyan and he never really got back the form he had at the start.
