hsvdt future??

i Believe that HsvDT is dead with the loss of opes Prime. THe only reason dumbrell is in the 16 car is because he brings autobarn sponsorship. so i think that hsv will die this year and with Rick he will go to Holden Racing Team in the #2 car with Mark Skaife retiring from full time racing and only competing enduros.

billy bigtime has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I can see Rick replacing Mark(I can see anyone replacing Mark!!) but I can't see HSVDT closing down, it is effectively Holdens second factory team and Holden needs all the help they can get on track.

Would HSVDT be required if 888 is involved in a fully funded manner on the red side?

IMO Rick would be the perfect replacement for MS GT and him work great together as shown over the last 3 years.

IMO Holden should go hard for 888 then WP can put all there time into HRT and 888 can do themselves, that would be the dream line-up for Holden, 888 wait for 2010 so they can bring CL.

imagine the Holden line-up in 2010 if this were to happen, as a Holden fan i would be over the moon.

Holden 2010 line-up:
Toll Holden Racing Team (Walkinshaw Performance/Walkinshaw Performance)
#2 - Toll/Holden - Garth Tander - VE Commodore
#22 - Toll/Holden - Rick Kelly - VE Commodore

Team Vodafone (888/888)
#88 - Vodafone/Holden - Jamie Whincup - VE Commodore
#888 - Vodafone/Holden - Craig Lowndes - VE Commodore

I can see 888 changing to Holden without a problem, they have no brand loyalty and they run GM cars in Europe anyway.

Rather than HSVDT running out of money I see Rick making the logical move to HRT and then them returning to more the young lions concept.

Still there's no advantage in changing from one manufacturer that can't afford to support them to another manufacturer that can't afford to support them either. Just extra costs and more money lost.

The problem with Rick is that he's not marketable. His fan base comprises 14 yo girls and the gay community, and even they think he's a dweeb.

Not that I see 888 leaving Ford just yet, but for the sake of this thread...

888 - Vodafone/HSV/Holden - Whincup
88 - Vodafone/HSV/Holden - Davison

Lowndes to FPR 3rd car.

Damn! Thought we were on track for a somewhat sensible post until then!

I don't think HSVDT will have suffered greatly as a result of Opes Prime collapsing. After all, the only sponsored a door.

um people sorry to say chatters but opes prime was there major sponsor cause toll is now major sponsor of hrt on the same spot as were opes prime were. I ama major fan of the hsv dealer team and when you think about it paul dumbrell is hopeless at driving and they picked him so they could gain sponsorship which pretty much means they are running out of optins.

I think they will survive, the team has bought holden 2 champions in recent times and has a reasonable fan base, they would be better pinching a sponsor from someone rather than going belly up....im sure holden could help them out in some way. Uncle Tom would not like to lose a "customer", would he?

News about GM out of the USA is not very promising......staff layoffs, further big losses.....US Government is talking about having to help them fund the development of "more appropriate" vehicles.

If the title is valued by Holden, I'd think these guys have no problem getting factory money ..... unlike lots of other Holden runners.

I know this opinion will get flamed, but isn't it naive for ANY team to rely on manufacturer support?

Teams like GRM, PWR, 888 (when it was Briggs) never used to have Ford or Holden support. And with the economy the way it is, I'd have treated manufacturer support as a very welcoem addition, but definitely not the cornerstone for a championship!

I also think that some of these teams need to look a little more at their marketing managers (if they have one). It's basic business - if you know a sponsor is leaving in 12 months, talk to them AND others.

Perhaps the Ford decision has come from left field, but for teams to be "upset" shows some naivity and in my opinion, arrogance.

Short answer now - HSVDT will trudge along. Even if Mr Kelly has to bankroll it for a year, there will be sponsors out there if they look.
