Britcar 24 hours, Silverstone 2008. My first (and to date only) experience of marshalling endurance racing. Andy Neate's crash aside, it was a brilliant and thoroughly enjoyable weekend of racing; and I was on post (exit of Stowe) with a great bunch of people.

Having only been at it properly for 6 months.

My best so far is probably the GT/F3 meet at donington, it was my first busy weekend and I loved it!

European GP at Brands in 1983 or 1985 (?).

Low key, fewer spectators, good weather, Brands Hatch, FIA BS not much in evidence in those days.

Good memories.

Kyalami, November 1999 - my first overseas trip.

On the menu:- ISRS GT Sports cars, European Truck Series, Thoroughbred Grand Prix, South African Production car championship plus other SA series.

Three days of fun in the sun - well, until 4PM each afternoon when the mother and father of all storms would deluge the circuit within 5 minutes, then 30 minutes later everything was bone dry but the humidity had gone!!!!

Having breakfast cooked ON POST by the post chief (scrambled egg & bacon baps!!!!) during early morning practice (circuit was live 6.30AM!!!!!), smelling t-bone steaks being skottle braai'd in red wine by the fence (and being offered pieces too!) by the public, and the friendliness of the marshals and officials.

At the risk sounding untravelled, my vote is the 2008 Goodwood Revival, Madgewick corner. Can't remember the racing but the craic on post was probably the best ever. A great year.

Possibly the first time BARC went to Croix...excellent short circuit, exciting racing and great evenings in Arras......or the first Snetts 24 hour race, making it up as we went along with great company......or the.1st Goodwood Revival meeting. Happy Days, but as Balders says so wisely, hopefully the best are yet to come!
Funny how often you remember the company more than the racing!

Yes, Goodwood 1998. Was a fantastic weekend. The BARC euro trips were excellent fun, can't remember much of Zolder but I'm sure it was good...

Cadwell. Never had a bad meeting. Great people at a great circuit.

The old Brit GT and F3 meetings at Thruxton were well up there also. Spent a great day flagging "out the back" with a good coach on hand. Perhaps my most enjoyable afternoon.

Very difficult, especially after this year, but I will choose......
Silverstone 1000kms 2009.
I was flagging on the old ped' bridge post. So much happened that weekend, ending with a big shunt AFTER the final chequered flag.
A weekend never forgotten.

I only started marshalling in Aug this year and only done 4 events so so far my best meeting was the GP Masters at Donington. Plenty of great racing and loads of classic cars, absolutely loved it
