Actually, it is.
Toyota basically decided to re-engineer it's car that was dueling with Porsche and Audi just five years ago to fit those "new rules"," and with some upgrades have managed to stay ahead. But the new challengers from Cadillac, Ferrari, and, of course, Porsche, not to mention Peugeot, have arrived using those same shared rules, including hybrid electric systems, that Glickenhaus and Vanwall went without.
And then there's Isotta Fraschini, whom are taking their Tipo 6 to Vallelunga for testing after building it in over 5+ months. If that car performs well, and makes good at Monza, what does that say.

They are new rules, not “new rules”. And while, undoubtedly Toyota use what they have learnt, it is a different car.

Same shared rules? With LMP? They are quite different. Although they both have hybrids, but that doesn’t mean they are he same rules.

And the Toyota, Peugeot, Ferrari, and Caddy aren’t even the same rules as he Caddy, Porsche and Acura!

Er, if it does go well, it will show they’ve done well.

However, that will depend on how much testing and development they do.

What we’ve learned so far, I think, is that the current rules don’t replace testing and development. It might not be the standard find a tenth here and there and more about making sure you keep that tenth in more conditions, but it still rewards the effort.

And, if that is the case, it is good.

The Glickenhaus has not been tested and developed as much. I’d love to see it continue racing and at the front. I literally have the T-Shirt, but, in retrospect, it’s not a surprise it isn’t. They need more resources to find the development and testing.

Even if they don't make it past this year, they have at least had a good run. It will be sad to see them go though, we'll see if there is anymore interested in keeping them going who can

They joined and participated at the right time - if Toyota had a disaster race your chances of winning le mans were never higher. Not sure those opportunities will exist for a number of years.

Yes, it may be the competition has caught up a bit, although they are still performing at a respectable level. And we should be grateful they gave us a couple more cars in the top class when it was struggling

Not much to say. Only got 62 laps under its belt. Can't draw any conclusions.

They look very evenly matched. A good consistent team here. Pla got the laps, but maybe Dumas had the edge on that day.

And what is interesting about Dumas’s times is that it doesn’t have the normal characteristic distribution that you normally see (and can see in the others), where the gap between subsequent slower laps is higher at first and then tends to be be more linear until the other end of the distribution. His is. Linear from the start. This might suggest he wasn’t pushing super hard.

Condition effected race, but Pla got the lappage and had the speed. Dumas missed the good times?

(just noticed the drivers have a different key - it's down to the order they appear in in the data. Oh well, can't be bothered to put something in to correct at the moment)

Yes, Toyota are favourites. Strongest well sorted car, great line up and at the top of their game with strategy calls and race management.

I have to admit that part of me just wants ACO to throw their approach out the window and give Glick 50hp, but I don't think there will be any. Performance breaks / weight penalties were pervious years.

I'll be the last to defend the ACO but Glick's lack of testing (as result of lack of budget) is certainly not on them. You have to wonder if all Jim's bickering about IMSA rubbed potential sponsors the wrong way. And hasn't he been running at the Ring for years without a realistic shot at the win so what's different now?

On a different note, the light blue car looks fantastic at Spa where the track's characteristic colors are yellow/red, see



Now with LM's being yellow/blue they certainly would look better in red!

Yeah, some of that has gotten old. Asked a buddy who is a federal attorney in trade and he said the lawsuit wouldn't last 5 minutes as far he could tell.

That said I've bought more than a few of Jim's things, shirts, stickers, flag if I could buy one and would love them in IMSA but trying to out bully felt off putting. But the car is cool as hell

It is cool and I'll still be rooting for them, even if it seems that they have little chance. They need to do a 'Wyer' run. Stick to a pace, keep it on the island and make no mistakes on the track or in the pits. Others will break, I'm sure of that - just probably not Toyota. (But you never know).

And for me, the blue livery is supercool - still the best looking prototype out there.

I can't recall, have the team said if the 709 will be in blue this year too? I know it has been out at events in the old red livery since last years race.

Speaking of the 709, I think it is a really cool concept that Glick runs that car for a customer as a "factory" car. I don't know that anybody else is doing that, but it is a nice sounding deal to buy a car and get it run at Le Mans while you don't have to put the team together yourself.

Thanks. Then the next question will obviously be how will they tell them apart? one has blue mirrors and the other white is probably the answer, but maybe they come up with something a little more obvious?

All the people that bought a shirt will be printed on a sheet of a4 paper taped to one car, and all the people that bought a watch will be printed on a flash card taped to the wing endplate of the other car.
