CART to race at SPA?
http://www.cart.com/News/Article.asp?ID=6059
CART.com has a story on SPA and "history" of the track. Seems kinda strange when you consider that it comes directly from the official CART website... Are they planning a race there? Even the article alludes to the possibility of this after F1 withdrew because of tobacco legislation, though it does mention that F1 plans to return next year. Still, considering all the talk on this forum about SPA, it'd be nice to see CART there. I don't know, maybe it's just a whacky rumor. Speaking of former F1 tracks, the this year's Austrian GP was the last because of tobacco legisolation, and considering the A-1 ring is such a new track, CART could take advantage of some state of the art facilities, and the Austrian fans would probably be happy to have a race. Just a thought... |

That same article also spoke of the Nurburgring.

While the CART cars would put of a great show, in fact I believe much better then F1, certain people WOULD make the comparison between the two series, and that is too bad. Even though the CART cars would be considerably slower, they would have a hell of a race, and that is what it is all about!

Comparisons between the two formulae? Now who would do such a thing? Certainly nothing like that happened when CART invaded Montreal!

I noticed the feature on Spa and the 'Ring, interesting stuff for sure, must be some relevance in writing that article...

Maybe I just can't get past the obvious, but it seems to me that the relevance is that Spa & the Nurburgring are between Brands Hatch and the Lausitzring...
Mr. Kirby actually said at the end of the story "Estoril in Portugal is likely to be added next year making a three-race European swing," so that is where I'll be putting my money. |

Maybe Gordon's also sighing wistfully?

I just want them to race in Estoril. Call me egoistic, but I would be able to go to that one and I need to go to a CART race!

Estoril's very possible... Spa perhaps with an agreement from bernie, but would people go to see a Spa Cart race, when there is still an F1 race? (I think F1 will be back next year) I'm not sure...
As for the Nurburgring, erm...maybe on a computer sim... |

If Jordi wins the Fantasy Grid, I vote that we all pitch in and send him to LongBeach.

If Estoril gets a date because Jordi can go see it, then Road Atlanta deserves one, too!
