Latest news on the schedule

Seoul and Puerto Rico off.

No extra events will be added this season.

Calgary, San Jose and Buenos Aires all look likely to be on the calendar for 2005.

16 or 17 races will be run next year.

I'd be surprised if Seoul wasn't on next years schedule.

Seoul is certainly in negotiations for next year.

It turns out its place on the 2004 schedule was only provisional.

But the whole calendar is looking very positive for 2005 so far.

I'm very happy to hear about Calgary, but if San Jose is added to the schedule then that means no more Laguna Seca.

If Elkhart Lake and Laguna Seca don't make business sense for the series, then there's no point running them, regardless of how "great" the tracks are.

Champ Car will go to tracks that are viable - and good luck to them.

Laguna gone from next years schedule - please say you are joking and have no facts on this. It's my favorite track.

If you're getting this from Autosport, don't forget the also predicted a definate season Finale in St Petersberg in their issue a month or so ago....

And yet they're still presenting speculation as facts, it seems...

It's not from Autosport, although they are running the story too.

Hi Cowboy,

No, I don't have any hard facts that LS won't be on the schedule next year other then the rumours floating around the forums. That said, I can't imagine California having three races....there's Long Beach, San Jose is almost guaranteed, so I would imagine that Laguna Seca would be the circuit left out, but like you, I hope OWRS sticks with LS! I still miss Mid-Ohio.....

I have heard from people working at Laguna Seca that rumours that the Champ Car race at that track are in shaky grounds are completely unfounded and that they have no idea who is planting these news (well, I could guess a few).

One of these contacts swore that the IRL has never contacted the track about a race there. I have to believe them.

Hey Muzza, No problem, I know you were not talking about me. So do you think that Cali will have three races next year then?

At these moment in time all is speculations, but I think if OWRS removes any race from California that would be a major strategic mistake.

The West Coast still is a Champ Car stronghold. It is the most populous American state and the one with the highest average purchasing power. California's economy is by itself of the ten largest of the world (it is the eighth largest, if I am not mistaken). Many companies that sponsor racing activities are based in California. More than any other place, California is where car culture lives. This is all too good - and that's why, of all places, the IRL included Sears Point (or, in corporativespeak, the Infineon Raceway) in its calendar for 2005, privileging it instead of many other alternatives...

It's the 5th largest, Muzza, right after Italy. I don't see why California can't have 3 races. Up until last year, there were 3. Long Beach, Laguna Seca, & Fontuky. BTW, Muzza, you going to Laguna Seca next weekend?

Jeff, good to hear from you, man!

Unfortunately I can't make Laguna Seca - we are moving the very same day...

Thanks for correcting me in the posting above.

Keep in touch,

Good luck with everything, Muzza. Moving house is a tremendous undertaking! Shame about Vegas, though. I was really looking forward to meeting you.

Actually, M'daddy, the move is one of the simplest challenges ahead in the next three months!

Shame about Vegas, but I hope you fellows have lots of fun.

And as the Californians say, what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas...
