Best Grand Prix Someone Can Attend

Sorry for the irrelevance of this post.
I can tell that each one of you is a great fan of the sport and probably would have attend many GPs, so here's the question:

Which GPs are the best to be there in your opinion and at your own experience?

Only ever been to Melbourne because I can't afford to travel overseas and attend the overseas races - perhaps Mexico 06 but with a baby joining our family we probably won't do that any more. Melbourne really tries to cater to its fans and I believe it has a lot more support category races than other Grands Prix. Also, if you know where to go, the drivers and team bosses are fairly accessible for the purposes of photographs and autographs.

I'd love to go to Spa, Monaco and Silverstone to ingest some of the history surrounding each circuit.

I remember how fantastic your photographs of Melbourne were Dixie! I have never been to an F1 race allthogh I have visited Monaco. I would think that the three venues that Mr Flatline mentioned would have to be awesome!

Gerben24 has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
If you want to go to a race with great atmosphere and history go to Monza (you should not be an anti Ferrari person in that place).

If you want to go to a race with good viewing spots, go to Magny Cours. Tickets for that race used to be not that expensive. Don't know if that still is the case.

If you want entertainment and good racing go to a A1GP or Nascar race

Me too, have only been to Melbourne (and Adelaide, dammit I wish it was still on the calendar!) and I have to say Melbourne puts on a very impressive show. Transport flawless, nigh on impossible to get lost, great food down in Lygon street (if you are prepared to put up with 20,000 tifosi), and generally a great start to the year racing wise. Gets my thumbs up..

Ive been to Malaysia, Barcelona and Monaco.

Malaysia i won in a karting competition so was free, but was very nice place but could have done with a bit more support racing. Also way too hot and humid for me!!!

Barcelona is absolutely brilliant for spectators, we had grandstand seats and general admission, you can see so much just with the general ticket. Theres also good support racing too. It worked out cheaper for us to fly from Liverpool to Barcelona, stay in a hotel on the coast in the holiday areas, and have a grandstand ticket; than it was for Silverstone.....

Monaco is a fantastic place but to see anything you got to have a decent grandstand seat, we were on the general admission on the hill on the last corner / pit entry and we hardly saw anything. But you get to walk alongside the pit lane when the track is closed and see plenty of famous people, cars etc and you can walk the track too between sessions which is great to get photographs etc. But the circuit is unbelievably hilly, which you cant appreciate on the TV

Thats my two penneth worth, anyone elses....?

I've been to both Silverstone and Spa.

Both can rain at their allotted slot in the calendar so go prepared.

Silverstone's good - sort out the aero regs and we can see overtaking there again.

But for me Spa blitzed it. Wet or dry - seeing and hearing the cars roar up Eau Rouge and watching from the bus stop is a sight and sound I'll never forget.

Whilst I didn't get to view from other vantage points I also understand that there are some other cracking spots to view at Spa.

Facilities wise they're on a par and Spa is a little cheaper than Silverstone - bu there's not much in it at all based on price.

Hi,
Imola, for me, great, we had grand stand tickets for the saturday and sunday in front of the start.... but you can also make a tour inside the track and check the corners and braking points really well, Tamburello for exemple... have a good rear view of the Villeneuve and Tossa corners, grat, a must.
A lot of emotion from people at Tmaburello with monument to Senna..... And that noise... amazing

I've only been to Hungaroring (this year). We went there by car from Greece, so we used the car in Budapest. First time I heard a F1 engine live (lucky to hear the V10!). It came as a shock! Nice race and very nice atmosphere, cheap grandstand tickets and the beauty of the city is unbelievable. We went there from Thursday so we went to the pitwalk and walked along the trackside. But you need to have TV screen access otherwise you don't understand what's going on in the race. I'm planning to go almost to everyother European GP, as to travel overseas is really expensive...

Watching a race live is an experience never to be forgotten...

Never been to a F1 race (they stopped racing here before I got the bug), but would love to go to Spa, Imola and of course Monaco!

Have a friend that went to Silverstone a couple of years back and he loved it.

I have been to Monaco,Spa,Silverstone and Magny-Cours. For me Monaco was not only the best f1 weekend i have been to but the best event i have ever been to of any type. You do need a grandstand seat to soak it all up. It can be done for the right money. We stayed in Nice and got the train in each morning, even the view from the train is something else. On the friday evening the track opens and you can walk the lap. That's pretty special because its like walking through a history book....amazing.

A buddy called me up a couple months ago and asked if I wanted to go to Spa. I've dreamed of it many times, but didn't really have the coin to spend on a trip to Europe and GP tickets. He said, "I'm buying if you're flying."

You don't need to ask me twice.

I'd never seen or heard anything like it. Awesome track, awesome setting. We had tickets in the Gold 2 grandstands about 2/3 of the way up the hill coming out of Eau Rouge. You could look across and see the chicane and pit entrance on the other side of the track, and then watch the cars blaze down the hill into Eau Rouge, and scream up the hill past you. By the end of race day, I had to turn my head away because I thought my ears would bleed.

We hiked all over the track on Friday and Saturday. It's big.

I'd rate it in the top three coolest things I've ever done. And a solid top three, because we spent a few days in Amsterdam before flying back to Seattle.

Can't tell you about any other track, but I can tell you that Spa is awesome.

I've never been to a gp. I hope I'll make it next year, as long as I find a couple of friends to go with me. I'd love to go to Australia, but it's a bit too far away, so it'd be too expensive. So, it's European gps only. My choices would be: Spa, Monza, Silverstone, Spain, Hockenheim, Nurburgring. Monaco is terribly overpriced obviously. I also like Imola. And Turkey, that was a GREAT circuit, plus it's really close to Greece, so hopefully I'll be there next year!

Menelaos, even if you have to go it alone, go. You can always mingle with the fans at the circuit.

I've only been to Silverstone but looking into a race abroad next year as I may be late for tickets. Turkey and Spa would be great I imagine.

But Silverstone is a truly wonderful place and will always be my first choice.

When you go and watch a formula 1 race live, you will see things completely different. The sound is, above all, an experience never to be forgotten. Which car sounded best? Toyota and BAR-Honda by far in my opinion...

I agree 100%. The sound is fantastic. One car sound that really sticks out for me is the McLaren of 99/00 seasons. It was just such a distinctive noise from the rest. It almost sounded as if it was screaming......brilliant

Been to Indy and Montmeló...

Indianapolis, as a part of racing history, is as good as you'll get. You can see good portions of the track too and the tickets are amongst the cheapest of the calendar. The racing and the track itself aren't very spectacular, but for sheer atmosphere and the museum are worth the trip. It isn't very easy to find the track if you haven't got a map (absolutely no signs when we were there this year, amazing), and though we didn't bother much to find out after the fiasco the race was, there didn't seem to be much going on in the city.

Montmeló is quite spectator friendly. It's not as expensive as some other European GPs and has some nice viewing places. Plus, the racing seems to have improved slightly recently. It isn't very far from Barcelona which is a great place to be, and well, it's my home GP so I like it!

I agree -- Indianapolis, when they were still racing there.

I've been to many F1 venues over the last thirty years, and of the modern tracks, Indy remains the best.

Tickets are incredibly inexpensive for the best seats, and one thing that Indy allows is "open seating" in all stands for all days, including the morning of the race. Only during the race do you have to be in your assigned seats. Not many tracks do that for you.

Access is incredibly easy, well organized and speedy. You can literally be out of the track, and on the open highway in less than 1/2 hour from, from 0 mph seat to 75 mph Interstate. That's with a five minute walk from your seat to the car.

Montreal used to be nice because of its location and the ability to get close to the track, but that has all changed over the last twenty years.

Indy remains the best, and other than Monaco, one of the places where you can still get reasonably close to the action.

Finally, the track workers are very friendly, vendor prices reasonable, and the smoked turkey legs are excellent.

That's true, getting out of the track was reasonably quick. But we didn't know if it was because Indy is well organised or if half the crowd had left already!

Like many of the others, I only know my "home" GP. It might change though as I anticipate that either Joe Rossi, Glen or Quicksilver will invite me next year at their local GP .

I would dream to see the Monoca GP but, speaking of what I know, I find the Montreal GP pretty enjoyable. The track is in a "park" on an island in front of the city where there is also a casino. Some of the city streets fill in with pretty women from Tuesday / Wednesday in the week of the race and, if you can afford it, watching them from JV's restaurant (the Newtown) is entertaining. This is obviously hearsay but, according to very reputable sources (some of those pretty talented) representatives of F1 team pit crews can be met at the strip clubs on the evenings (Another particularity of Mtl is to have those within the business part of the city which is pretty convenient. This, again, is what I've been told ).

Despite the recent significant increase in the price of tickets due to uncle Bernie wanting more candies to keep the race in Montreal after tobacco advertising was banned, I still think it is one of the most affordable GP to attend. I would be curious to know the average price of tickets in Europe for a race week end. I tend to forget how much I paid last time but I think it was CAN $325 (i.e. approx. 140 sterling) for a good ticket for the whole weekend in the Senna Ss after the starting line (i.e just in front the pit exit).

Because they are blood thirsty!

P.S. And yeah I would pay the airfare for seeing a GP race at the track.
