Turner Sports should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Sam Collier Memorial Race - Florida 1957 & 1958

I am trying to find any information on the Sam Collier Memorial Races of 1957 & 1958. My Interest being that in 1957 a Turner Sports Car was the outright winner in 57 (BMC) and a Climax version was runner up in 1958.

I would like to find out the Drivers Names and any other information such as dates and venue (Sebring?) for a book I am researching for.

Can anyone out there help?

Turner cars

The only Turner car that I have come across racing in Florida was that driven by Robert Stoddard. He entered the SCCA races at Masters Field in Miami in January 1958. There was no mention of the Sam Collier Memorial Race at this meeting though.

Russell,
There is a report of the race at Boca Raton held in 1958 in the May issue of the SCCA magazine. Bob Stoddard wrote the report which features a good picture of the author in his Turner.

Terry, Many thanks for your reply , This is very interesting information and Robert Stoddart a new name to me, The period of his racing certainly fits the bill, Is there anywat I could obtain a photocopy of his article you mention? Of course I will cover any costs. My thanks again for your research, I hope in time I can build up a good history of US Turner racing to compliment the well documented UK racing success of the late 50s and early 60s.
