If you are at Silverstone for the Britcar this weekend, be sure to catch the Sports 2000 race on Saturday (13:45 I think). The entry list currently sits at 48 which should be a fantastic spectacle.

It was a great meeting last year but the Pinto race, 36 starters, was spoiled by the 5 lap safety car period. This year with 50 starters and the speed difference between a Pinto car and a Duratec car, everyone needs to be concentrating. Stay safe.

Good to see that despite the odd bit of bodywork lying about, the 46 cars behaved themselves. Great qualifying battle and a good race.

Hats off to Mike Jenvey for not giving up and commiseration to Robert Oldershaw, these things happen. Fantastic result for Craig Mitchell again.

Elden Sports 2000 and Brands

Dont forget Brands meeting on 15/16th with Duratec race, Pinto and Historics. Hopefully will be all back together by then. New head gasket done and gluing nose back together!!

On another note does anyone have any history of the Elden Sports 2000s. Cant find out much about my car (1979 car). Think 5 cars were built covering 1976 to 1979ish (mine is 1979).

Cheers

Mark

I have to confess I was quite surprised we all made round the first lap unscathed! Did I see a Rotor on the entry list for Brands????

There was a Rotor on the entry list but goodness knows why. We did enquire in August but it was not well received so never put an entry in.

I always enjoy the festival, been going for years and this year there was much to cheer me. Lots of young Scottish drivers going well and a few up on the podium.

Good to meet up with a lot of the S2000 guys but sad to see the Championship ending the way it did. Heard the S2000 club said Rob Oldershaw won it but that the BRSCC declared Mike Jenvey the winner? Strange. Does anyone actually know who won the Duratec Championship?

Sports 2000 calendar for 2012 is now up on the club web site (www.sports2000-srcc.com). Click on the forum tab and go to general discussion section.

Once again, the circuit selection is fantastic (Brands GP/Silverstone GP/Oulton Park Int'l/Thruxton/Spa!!!/Cadwell Park/Donington....). I doubt there's another series with better? Proper racing cars which cost beer money to run (if you drink a reasonable quantity of beer, that is), full grids, racing throughout the field and friendly, helpful people throughout. Cars are available from @ £12k for a Pinto and @ £20k for a Duratec. What's not to like?

Rollo (his car is faster than he is) Tomasi

Swift DB2 Pinto

Some cracking cars for sale!

Resurrecting an old thread!

For anyone considering what to race next year, another plug for the Sports 2000 series. Fast cars (46 seconds round Brands), low running costs and great circuits with low entry fees - this year we've been on the Silverstone GP circuit twice, Brands GP, Snetterton 300, Thruxton and Spa Francorchamps.

Next year sees the introduction of a Class B for older Duratec cars.

A couple of great cars on the market at the end of this year;

Harry Champman's Duratec Lola 0490 - a front-running car with a great spares package

Mike Jenvey's championship-winning Jenvey-Gunn (this year and 2009). Was voted national race car of the year on 2009 and it's been even quicker this year!

There's a new website on the way, but the cars are listed on the forum (and at racecarsdirect.com - just search for Sports 2000 cars)

and don't forget that the early Sports 2000 Pintos are eligible as a class for the HSCC 2 litre "Group 6" series. Get some very nice invites. Must be one of the cheapest ways in to historic motorsport events.

I knew I could rely on you for some additional publicity! And yes, it's true, the Historic Pintos (pre 1982) have been invited to join the HSCC for their blue riband events this year (Gold Cup, Martini Trophy). Next year we're hoping to align calendars with the HSCC.

Not a classic season for Sports 2000 it has to be said. Numbers have been down and now that the season is nearly over a lot of the front runners are giving up and have their cars up for sale. Last year the FF festival round was oversubscribed but this year there are only 20 Pintos entered. Looks like all the extra rules that have been brought in to "protect" the series have had the opposite effect and have chased folk away. As nice as it is to see the Historics getting a slot with the HSCC this will further reduce competitor numbers in the Pinto series which is more bad news for the club.

Lets hope next year with a new sponsor and new people involved in the promotion of the club things can improve.

I'm doing my best!!

Pretty much every series is suffering lower grid numbers this year and there has been some extremely close racingthis year. The pinto championship is going down to the wire and there are other classes still to be decided at Brands. Also on the upside, some of the cars that haven't been out this year and scheduled to return next year and some well-known cars have changed hands and have new owners. The new Duratec Class B will give old duffers like me something to aim for too!

3 Duratec cars sold over the last couple of weeks (including the Harry Chapman car mentioned above). With a series sponsor on board, next year's championship promises to be a cracker.

This year's winning car is still available!

Just thought I'd update the thread with this year's calendar. As usual a great variety of circuits

27th April Silverstone GP (Duratec & Pinto Combined)
25th May Oulton Park Int. (Double Header Duratec & Pinto Combined)
6-9th June Zandvoort (Enduro 2 x 30min races combined)
13/14th July Donington Park (Separate races Duratec & Pinto)
21st July Thruxton (Enduro Combined Duratec & Pinto)
24/25th August Brands Hatch GP (Enduro Combined Duratec & Pinto)
14th Sept Donington Park (Separate races Duratec & Pinto)
26/27th Oct Brands Hatch FFF (Separate races Duratec & Pinto)

A new website on the way too (with cars for sale - it's not too late to join us!)

Access it here

Thanks - just finished loading the car, no time to paint the new bodywork so will be running 'shades of grey!'

Are you coming down?

Afraid not. To celebrate the fact that we have been building cars for 30 years and I started racing 40 years ago we are doing lots of different events in some of the cars I have designed and built. We have had one of the JT7 road cars ( nearly 20 years old) out at a sprint at Kames and also at the hill climb at Doune. We are putting together another JT7 for sprints and hillclimbs later in the year and hope to have the Sports 2000 JT7 out at the stand alone Pinto races at Donington and Brands. Busy time because we are also building an all new road car that is more suitable to the Scottish climate (Roof, doors and a heater). If you add in the IMP 50 celebrations that start this coming wednesday, we have two Clans and a Sunbeam Imp Sport to play with, you can see that a day off to spectate is out of the question.

Good luck on Saturday. I Expect to see some tartan on the podium.

There was tartan, young Craig Mitchell, back in the Lola took it to 3rd. I managed 6th overall. However, if you took the newly formed Duratec Class B results, then Craig & I were 1st & 2nd!

Good to see Craig back on the podium. He deserves it after putting up with all the crap he got last year. Good result for you too despite the "interloper" getting in your way.
