I think the biggest difference between the '95 grid and the '04 grid is not the strength of the drivers but that of the teams. The current Champ Car grid has a plethora of new teams that are still trying to find that winning formula. Newman-Haas by comparison has a rich history of performing at the top and is making easy pickings of the new teams. Forsythe the one team that can make life difficult this year has stretched themselves too thin.
One need only look at Jourdain's performance drop since losing the Team Rahal support. Rusport just haven't the resources or experience yet. Relative to that I find it difficult to congratulate Bruno on his second place. If you are compared in relation to your team-mate then he really has underperformed. He benefited from being in a dominating team and having a flattering points system. Bourdais in essence kicked his arse all over the Champ Car schedule.

A torrential afternoon practice session in Watkins Glen saw Villeneuve out-qualify everyone. By 11 seconds.Scheckter stated: "I scared myself rigid that day, I thought I had to be quickest. Then I saw Gilles's time and - I still don't really understand how it was possible. Eleven seconds !"
