Bernie to meet the teams in Sepang

http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=79744

According to a report on F1Racing, BE will travel to Sepang in order to quell the seemingly rejuvinated threat of the GPWC.

According to Paul Stoddart, BE is vowing to 'appease the GPWC', what shape or form that will take is unclear.

Stoddart also hinted that possibilities included:

BE doing a deal with the banks that own a stake in F1

Max Mosley resigning his post as president of the FIA

An undertaking that the FIA 'will stop messing with the regulations' - something that has caused disquiet amongst the major teams, and proved an expensive exercise for which the jury is still out on it's merit and success.

Another interesting political weekend coming it seems.

When I saw the title I thought "hasn't he met them before?" but sadly it wasn't a comedy moment.

Certainly your last sentnece rings true but since 2000 every weekend has seemingly been political.

I think everyone would like them to stop messing with the regulations. Otehrwise I'm not sure what will happen, but the GPWC guys seem to have some serious leverege and the moment.

I think this is more wishfull thinking on Stoddy's part, though i can't say i'd be too upset if it came to fruition

Maybe this time around Max would be forced to step down; or shall I put it this way - graciously eased out..

I thought he said that he was just not resigning immediately and would stay until the end of the term? Has he said he will now run at the next election?

off topic: The sporting ones yes, but I'd love to see major changes to technical each year. Keep them on their toes.

Why do people always think they're going to come away from meetings with Bernie with something beneficial?

I don't care if there are 10 F1 team chiefs and their bulldogs squeezed into B's motorhome...he'll have them all for breakfast, mark my words.

I think Bernard's preferred course of action will be to get rid of Max, the Banks and Stoddart so he can run the place fully to his liking.

Not so sure that Bernie would want to get rid of Max, after all, who would replace him? If rumours are to be true, Max's likely replacement , Jean Todt, is currently commited to Ferrari.

I think I'll wait to hear from Bernie on what he is "vowing" to do rather than rely on Stoddy, ta very much.

And I'm sure that is more of a Stoddy wish list than any kind of reality.

Will he ever shut up? D'you think he'll still be on at this when the other nine have signed up with BE?

Yes I think he will. Tenacious and stubborn bugger.
I actually applaud him for his bottle.

The story is that Max is grooming Jean Todt to replace him as President of the FIA. But Max is up for re-election in October according to reports in the magazine F1 Racing, and could be facing challenges from either Tony Purnell and/or Stoddy, although Stoddy is quoted as saying the presidency is too large a job for him but he would be interested in a senior vice-presidency in relation Formula One.

Stoddy?

I was going to type Todt , but then it got more funny.

In addition, since when has it been only people involved in F1 who voted for the FIA president?

You're right Adam - it is the constinuency of the FIA that votes for its president, same as always. That's why the article in the F1 Racing magazine I've read downplayed the chances of both Purnell and Stoddart from being elected, because they aren't known personally outside Formula One, whereas, IIRC, Todt has a position on the World Motorsport Council, so he has a presence outside of being Ferrari's team principal.

So if Todtys elected, sporting rule number 1 will be.

1.Only cars that are red and whos name begins with F will be allowed to score any WDC or WCC points.

Can anyone spot any loopholes in that.

Then Minardi will become Fondmetal and run in a Dallara coloured livery from the 90's. then they will be second in the championship....

I think that irregardless of whether Max is the right guy for FIA presidency, to have 9 teams gang up to pressure and force Max to step down would be a disaster for Motorsports.

On one hand, it just shows how stuck in their own world F1 is. And that to let teams from a series manipulate the political side of motorsport with disregards for the traditional voting procedures is unfortunate.
