Schumacher facing History ! PART II
From dailyF1.com :
Quote:
Michael Schumacher has said Juan-Pablo Montoya reminds him of himself when he was starting in
Formula One.
Montoya has brought not just speed and excitement into Formula One since his arrival with the
Williams team this year, but also unflappable confidence and an unwillingness to allow more
experience drivers phase him.
Schumacher had experience of this in Austria when he was engaged in a heated scrap for the lead
with the 25-year-old Colombian. The latter refused to give up his line, and both men ran off the
track while the following six blasted past. Schumacher criticised Montoya, but the latter said he
refused to ‘move over for a driver just because of who they are’.
Schumacher said he employed a similar attitude in the early nineties when he started.
‘Sometimes Montoya reminds me of how I was in the early days,’ said the German, now a triple
World Champion.
‘It really didn't bother me too much what the other drivers represented or what they had already
achieved. I was just interested in what they were able to do at that moment in time.
‘I don't doubt that, at the time, some people thought I was exaggerating, and so I'm really not
in a position to complain if they do the same thing to me, it's normal.’
