I am guessing you are located in England ?

Im not sure of what goes on over there (sometimes I think the cold effects their brains LOL) but when you signed your son up for his licence you may or may not have recieved a manual , this should tell you what kind of wet tires are required for your class , if not then get in touch with your local club president and he can inform you of the tires required and where you can purchase them from.

hopefully some more Pom's can come on ere and help you but from an Australin point of viwn thats how it is done here and I would assume how it is done over there.

go to www.karting.co.uk and ask on the forum
they are Dunlops for cadets but cant think off the top of my head the type
check in the blue book from the msa that you get, or do as suggested go to a local and track, have a look or a chat with cadet racers
