Can Tracy win the title this year?

Well will the 2003 champion (and isn't he the most experienced driver now that it doesn't look like Vasser will be racing in Long Beach again?) win the Vanderbilt cup for a second time? If he does its been a long time coming again!
I wanted him to last year along with Wilson, neither did. But I expect alot more from Paul.

From Autosport:

Quote:
"I've spent every moment of my off-season training and getting my body ready to go win a championship this year.

"I've been cycling and getting my weight down and I feel as though I'm more focused than ever."

"2006 was exciting with my NASCAR debut and also my five-year contract extension with Forsythe, but unfortunately there was not a lot of success in either venture," he said.

"That made me very frustrated, which is what led to my decision in October to focus on Champ Car, and I'm committed to doing whatever I have to do to give Forsythe another championship."

Well he has five years to do it again. With the extra competitive field next year, hopefully someone will give Bourdais a run for his money (as isn't Seb probably driving for Torro Rosso in '08).

I don't expect him to be a contender. He's too.. well... too Tracy to do it.

I don't see why PT can't win races but if he has another inconsistent season like '06 then he may never win the title again...

With the new package next year, and if successful re focused Paul Tracy I believe could take the championship.

Needs a solid team mate though.

The question may be more around how quickly can Forsythe get on top of the new Panoz chassis than any other factor. If they can unlock the speed immediately, and jump their competition (possible but doubtful) perhaps there is a shot here....

... but with everyone on a relatively level playing field knowledge-wise... it would be an ask to suggest Mr Tracy will blow the field's doors off just because he has decided to improve his physical fitness

as long as the team dont hyave any troubles and PT stay away from it and if Bourdais have trouble then yes he can win a other championship.

Yes he could win another Championship but I would be suprised if he does. IMO Tracy is past his best now.

no, i think Bourdais/Newman/Haas will be their usual selves and the rookies that did well this year Power, Briscoe, Clarke will be tough to beat and i think Tracey is Tracey and a bit past his prime in ChampCar.

Sadly he's to inconsistant so i'd say no.

Paul "who ate all the pies" Tracy won't be winning the title.

The talent pool near the top is getting HOT!, Tracy and Seb will have more trouble. Tracy certainly has more room for improvementbut Bourdais, mentally is very tough and and about 5% better driver then a Tracy in top form, in my opinion.

PT is a huge headcase. Recall that for 2003 PT realized that he had screwed up for much of his career and finally put himself into the mindset to be consistant and win a championship. AJ proved that the Forsythe car had nothing wrong with it and that PT was simply driving possibly the worst he had in his career. I think there's a reasonable chance that PT will have heard the wakeup call and can challange for the title. Icemachine hit the nail on the head.

In 2004 and 2005 Bourdais may have won with a certain amount of ease when it came down to points, but PT challanged him on track and made it interesting. Let's hope that PT can at least consistantly take the fight to Bourdais.

I'm not exactly sure what all this new competition is that people are refering to (potential Minardi drivers maybe?).

Clarke and Briscoe dont have confirmed drives at the moment.

New competition I would agree with Power, adding in Rahal, Simone, Carroll (if he gets the Forsythe ride)

It sounds like Rahal will be in the series, but from what the lay person can tell Simone and Carroll aren't any more likely than Briscoe and Clarke.

For Simone, yes I did forget about his prize money. Change the above to exclude his name.
