Rockingham

Before we left Silverstone today Woody and I were talking to someone who had rushed back from the closed-doors meeting at Rockingham. He could think of only 2 words to desribe it - "building site". Apparantly the paddock area looks very small and he doubted that Coys would be able to accomodate everyone.

I know we have several racers and teams here, some of whom might have been there as well. If so what was it like and would you agree with that assessment?

Tommi should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I was there yesterday for the test meeting and yes they have still got a lot of work to do. However you can't fail to be impressed by the place. The majotity of the grandstands are complete and the track is completely finished both on the oval and the infield circuit. They used the inner circuit and one turn of the oval (similar to the F1 at Indianapolis)for the race. It's pretty impressive already when you think what they've already achieved.

THR has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
you HAVE to goto rockingham.
AWESOME is the only word to describe it.

we did the BARC formula renault race there this weekend.
true it needs finishing touches
but still
track is lovely. smooth. new. technical.
interesting racing. turn one on opening lap using the banked turn one.
pit garages are lovely and huge. 34 of them!!

pit lane is the width of a motorway.
banking is lovely.
135ish formula renault circuit.

oh its just fantastic. awesome!!!
if u can go you have to.
****es rings round silverstone.

imagine INDY GP and that is pretty much what rockingham seesms like.

grandstands are HUGE, seem the whole track.
place is massive!
all it really needs is tidying up and finishing.
it will be ready for indycars!

oh a BMW was first to try out the wall.

oh and in my view this was a better event than the BTCC.
cheaper, 8 races, 10-5pm. ex touring cars (faster than now) closer racing, better track. oh and it was lots LOTS warmer.

GO!!

Does anyone know where I can get some drawings of the track? Someone I know wants to do an article for the newsletter about the banking and he needs drawings.

Can't afford it, I'm afraid; it costs 3x the price of average Champ Car events and theres air fare, hotel fare, and car rental to take into account - and if it rains, we don't see any racing...and it's likely to rain in Britain in September.

So not this year thanks.

I think we were talking about the Coy's meeting this weekend Liz.My tickets have still not arrived and now there's a post strike..
The price of tickets for the CART meeting is exessive I agree.Seems to be based on F1 Silverstone prices.I went to Long Beach in 1993.3 day ticket including stand, paddock, breakfast and lunch, cost $125.

Oh, okay. I am not familiar with the Coys racing. Write it up for the newsletter if you do go, especially your impressions of the facilities.

I wonder if anyone who has been/is going to Rockingham would be kind enough to assist us in putting together a circuit guide for 10 Tenths ? Would be muchly appreciated by those of us who won't be at the Rock for a few weeks yet...

Probably will be unable to make the meet now. Put off by the thoughts of Nigel Mansell being there, Bank Hol traffic on M25 & M1, queues to get in and out, Mansell there, only practice no racing. Plus slightly short of beer tokens.

Hope you have a good time anyway, make sure you tell us all about it though.
