Roman Kresta

Did you see the pictures of Roman Kresta's off yesterday?! Saved by that pole from going over the edge, in what would surely have been a hundred metre fall... that was scary. The youngest driver in the WRC and his co-driver Jan Tomanek must be thanking their lucky stars today.

If I've said it one, I've said it a thousand time - those drops that you find in the Monte, San Remo & Corsica are very dangerous. Every attempt needs to be made to make the stages safe - and, at the moment, this isn't happeneing.

All I have seen is the picture. What happened exactly? And however did they get them out of the car without sending it over the cliff?

An impressive bit of parking. Michael Caine would be proud of him - well the Skoda is a bit of a bus!

Seriously though, there is is a big issue here about the safety of rallying! I agree that the Monte, Corsica and San Remo are unsafe, as are Sweden and the Safari, but rally drivers live on the edge! If you take out these events you only have Rally GB, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Cyprus, Argentina, Acropolis, Catalonia and Deutschland.

That only leaves two ashpalt events in a calendar of nine rounds!

As far as I could tell from the pictures, it looked like they crashed through the small retaining wall (there was this short wall on the outside, and when we saw the overhead shot, there was certainly no wall left where the car stood). We had the onboard camera for the incident, and then the overhead shot afterwards, so we didn't see the wall falling off, but it certainly looked to me like that was what happened. As for how they got them out, I have no idea.
