Believe tram is not up and running until the end of this year, ie will not be running for Le Mans itself.

@Bonedome,

Dunno when you'll be arriving but we allways arrive wednesday evening or thursdaymorning which leaves ample time to do your shopping. There are many big supermarkets situated in and around LM and Arnage.
Friday is by far the worst day to go in your car and to the supermarkets, since everybody does that and you've also got the majority of the french coming on Friday.(if you still go,don't be surprised to spend 4 hours away from the track/campsite)
We mostly go to the supermarkets once on thursday and once on the saturday, about two hours after the start of the race.

Hope you can use this info.

I'm glad I visited this track before this unpersonal area after the Dunlop bridge. I've also had the good fortune to stand very close to the entrance of Indianapolis. Sigh...

IMHO the ACO is allways doing the wrong thing for the spectators but the right thing for their wallets....slowly robbing the place of it's uniqueness.

They've uncovered another bomb at Le Mans, this time in the paddock!

If the bomb had been found at a uk circuit there'd be a 3-mile exclusion zone, but in France they put a bit of tape around the hole and allow some random bloke to pose for photos next to it.

As an historic aside, were the bombs from a raid on the neighbouring airfield or were there military targets in the area?

The targets would have been twofold, the airfield adjacent to the circuit and the nearby (railway) marshalling yard.

Well, this kind of american bomb is very common and its fuse mechanism is well known.

The airfield is not far from the circuit and there was a marshalling yard not far from it.

Were they ours, the German's or both? I know that the one they just found was American, but there has to be American, German, and British aircraft bombs scattered all over the place(Germany bombed the area in 1940 when the Nazis invaded, and the USAAF and RAF bombed the area after D Day in 1944 during the liberation of western Europe from the Nazis).

Some of us of a more mature age will have recognised that that isn't just some "random bloke", but is in fact 1970s US TV detective Frank Cannon.

Don't believe me?

I'm saddened to see so many trees have been removed in the Esses / Tertre Rouge area

I see they are laying fresh tarmac behind the main grandstands too.

Also, as part of the Tertre Rouge works, is there now more of a public enclosure on the outside of the corner or is it just improved access for the exit to the outside world that is located there?

That new Tertre Rouge section is beginning to look bonkers fast, but when you can probably see it from the Dunlop Bridge theres something slightly wrong...someone send the ACO some tree saplings...and quick!

It looks worse because it's winter, but I agree that the loss of trees is a shame.

And is it just me, or do the new "permanent" garages look no more permanent that the old "temporary" garages?

I can't see all this work being finished in time for June as seems to be the plan.

The track will be finished no problem but some of the other paddock related stuff won't be ready IMO.

In this image it looks like they have moved the track over to the right of the existing circuit. I hope that the new tarmac is just a new access road because the narrowness of tertre rouge and the esses combined with the spectators proximity to the track makes it one of the most exhilarating places to watch from.

That's definately the access road. The rumble strips you see are the exit of the Esses which will still be in the same place.
