Compact Flash Card Help
Okay, can someone help me with a problem. We have a Canon G3 at work which we have had for about 18 months. Last week when I connected the camera to the computer, the Canon software wouldn't recognise that there was a camera attached to the computer. It took a couple of hours before it would work and let me download the images (which I had to do through paintshop like you would when scanning an image). Since then it's been working fine again until this morning when I went to try to download some images. Again, the software wouldn't recognise the camera.
I disconnected the camera, but it carried on flashing like it was still charging its batteries. The camera wouldn't switch on. After some time, the camera switched on - but it now has a delay of a couple of minutes between switching on and camera activating. Even then, the display isn't showing, it takes a few minutes longer for the display to come on and I then get a CF card error. A card reader can't read the card either. It won't let me reformat the card or anything else. Any suggestions? Is it a corrupted card or some other problem? |

Try a different card and see what happens, if the problem is the same it isn't the card and must be the camera or software.

The card which came with the camera will work without any problems. I've looked on the dpreview forums and people have posted on there about the same thing happening with the G3 and G5, including one with the same card as ours. There's no solutions offered on there, looks like it's going to be a new card.

Something similar happened to my Konica Minolta A2. I had taken a few exposures as tif or RAW files, and for some reason the Compact Flash card didn't like it.
I was able to reformat though. |

Hi Carrie,
one thing can could help is to reformat the card in a computer using some sort of image rescue software that if it recognizes the card may be able to 1. do a check on the card to see if the sectors or whatever they check are alright and 2. completely reformat it in a "better" way than in-camera you should be able to find references to software and how-tos on sites like dpreview etc. good luck you could also uninstall and reinstall the software if possible tosee if that could be the weak link D. ps, hello also to Mr. C as usual, long time no type Last edited by djb; 23 Jul 2004 at 23:19. |
