2000mm width sounds good (they never should have narrowed them in the first place in 2013 was it?), however they shouldnt be looking too fondly of F1 and their outrageous bus length F1 cars. Yes, I know you get more aero, yes I know they are more stable, but id rather see wider, shorter cars, you know, like "sportscars".

Wow. If Ferrari do such an announcement, let's hope they will, there could be at Le Mans 2023 five manufacturers representing at least 47 wins (9 + 19 + 13 + 3 + 3 so far). With Bentley or Jaguar it could be perfect. Why not ?
This thread is well named.

Here's an interesting thought.

In 2021 all 3 LMH entrants say they'll have 2-cars each from the get go.
In 2023 just with all the 2021 players re-committing to the top class we'll likely have 10 different marques competing at Le Mans

Audi – LMDh
Porsche – LMDh
Peugeot – LMH
Toyota – LMH
Glickenhaus – LMH
ByKolles – LMH
Honda/Acura – LMDh (TBC)
GM - LMDh (TBC)
Mazda – LMDh (TBC)
Alpine – LMDh?

That could be around 25 cars even without other rumoured entrants like Ford, McLaren or Ferrari.

Do you think by 2023 ACO may decide to completely nix the Pro version of whatever GT class there will be? That would make the grid very "prototype-heavy". I'd rather facilitate the expansion of Hypercar completely at the expense of LMP2. Frankly, it'd be great if LMDh or perhaps some customer-friendly non-hybrid LMH cars completely took over the P2 marketplace. And then a Pro-Am subclass can be established within Hypercar, like ACO did for 2021 in LMP2.

I think the opposite Simon ... Lmdh is the perfect formula for one car to be dressed up by two or more manufacturers from the same group. Yes they will look different and they will use different engines, but my bet is they will be based on the same chassis

You could be right Mal, but I also wonder why with money tight in VAG group there seems to be no overall group position. But either way good news. Just had an email from the ACO they are very pleased with things but still no mention of ticket sales for 2021,

I would tend to think, ''any'' privateer cars from the OEM's, will be B SPEC, not exactly the same as the factory cars. Whether the regs allow this or not, that's IS how it will be.

The OEM's MUST use 1 of the 4 LMP2 constructors for the chassis and suspension for any LMDh.

That is what the regs say. But lets wait and see if there are ''technical amendments approved by both IMSA and the ACO, to benefit the OEM entries.

LMDH will very quickly become as LMP1 did, a spending formula. Where no privateer can compete with the factory teams. So please tell me where this is the wonderful ''new future of prototype racing? It's the same old with a new name, no more.

You do not really get the title of this thread do you?

The discussion you want to kick up is better suited in the future regulations thread, so please take it there.

I wonder whether ACO/IMSA would accept a fifth chassis constructor, maybe for 2024 projects and onwards? The last thing you'd want is for a new manufacturer to be dissuaded due to those guys all being at capacity. Especially if customer cars start ramping up. The increased need for spares etc.

It's a nice problem to have I guess.
