Dream Touring Car Schedule and Format?

I was just thinking about this, and thought about what my dream touring car schedule and format would be?

Car Classes:
Class 2/B – A Feeder series to Class 1/A.
S2000 regulations.
Class 1/A – Premier Class
V8 Supercar regulations.

Free Practice:
Friday Morning: 2x20 Minutes or Class 2 .2x30 minutes for Class 2.*

Qualification:
Saturday Morning: 20 Minutes for Class 2, 30 Minutes for Class 1 – Minimum of 2 timed laps in the session. Each cars fastest timed lap of the session forms the grid for Race 1.

*Sessions extended at endurance races.

Race Format:
Saturday Afternoon: Class 2, Race 1 – 75km, Grid is formed by qualifying.
Class 1, Race 1 – 100km, Grid id formed by qualifying.
Sunday Afternoon: Class 2, Race 2 – 75km, Grid is formed by the fastest laps from race 1.
Class 1, Race 2 – 100km, Grid is formed by the fastest laps from race 1.

A compulsory tyre stop must be completed during each race.

Points:
Class 1: 50, 47, 44, 41, 38, 35, 32, 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Class 2: Same as Class 1.

A bonus point for Pole Position and for the fastest lap of each race.

R1: Zhuhai
R2: Zandvoort
R3: Rome Street Circuit
R4: Algarve, Portimao
R5: Jerez
R6: Dijon-Prenois
R7: Nurburgring
R8: Spa 24 Hours*
R9: Brands Hatch
R10: Potrero de los Funes* {500km}
R11: Laguna Seca
R12: Eastern Creek
R13: Okayama
R14: Macau

Is it that time of the year already?! Macau isn't even over and we have the first fantasy-thread, I have a feeling this will be a long winter...

Anyway, I think the Superstars Series has it pretty much right - I'd make the sprint races a little longer (40 minutes-ish) and add a couple of endurance events, but that's about it.

If I had to come up with a support class, I'd base it on the VLN SP-regulations and use the Seat Leon Supercopas as a benchmark.

As for the schedule - I'd keep this a European series, other countries have impressive touring car traditions on their own, no need to mess with that.

Tracks: Zolder - Nordschleife - Red Bull Ring - Mugello - Dijon - Spa - Brands Hatch GP - Brno - Anderstorp - Jarama - Zaandvoort. Not necessarily in that order.

It's hard to strike a balance between reality and fantasy with this stuff. In my ultimate fantasy, the cars would all be RWD and one could have a naturally-aspirated 2 litre formula with no limits on cylinder count. In reality, there's not way to get that.

So, I would settle for NGTC rules, but with all cars being AWD (to get the largest number of possible participants, but without having FWD), and with the cars having bigger wheels, and saloons only.

As far as circuits go, being Canadian, I'll go with a North American schedule, so: Sebring, Long Beach, Barber, the new F1 track in Texas (night race), VIR, Toronto (night race), Cleveland (Burke Lakefront Airport), Montreal, Road America, New Jersey, Mid-Ohio, Mosport, Mont Tremblant, Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca (starting at twilight).

I'd like each race to be a 200km event, as although short, action-packed races are nice, I'd like to see the cars get used a bit more, with an element of overcoming adversity thrown in.

My focus would be on low-cost racing. IMO the NGTC cars go into the right direction but it's still not enough. I'm used to one-make series, so maybe what I'd do is leaving all the mechanical stuff untouched, except for some parts provided by the organization.
Everyone should have the same amount of HP, same suspensions and so on. The key to this idea would be the look and the sound of the cars. My experience is, no matter how technologically advanced the cars are, people only care about sound and speed.
So the direction would be much like the Superstars Series, road cars made into racing cars. No carbon fibre, though, and no 6.3 engines against 4.2s.
The result would be similar cars with similar performances and most of the work to be done by the drivers and the engineers, who'll have to squeeze the very last hundredth out of the car.
As for the tracks, I'd love to see such cars run on this venues:

Paul Ricard
Salzburgring
Donington Park
Jerez (or Catalunya)
Portimao
Laguna Seca
Interlagos
Macau

I'd love to see touring cars doing a 500 or 1000km race at the Nordschleife. other than that I think that Zolder should be in the schedule on Easter Weekend.

Dream format and calendar? That's easy. 1985 + Macau. I'd take the same cars as well. Rover, 635CSi, Volvo 240T + 200 Alfas.

RULES:

1 model of cars (alfa 159, audi a4, bmw 320, chevy cruze, ford mondeo, honda accord, lexus IS F, opel isigna, peugeot 407, renault laguna, seat exeo, volvo s40)

2 point system: 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1 for both races, 1 point for the fastest lap, 1 point for the super pole

3 lenght race: race 1 sprint 75 km, race 2 endurance 150 km and 1 pit stop, standing start in both races

4 the cars: engine 2 litres with turbo (not diesel), top power 330 hp, tyres of 19 inches, possibility to have front wheel drive (weight 1100 kg), rear wheel drive (1130 kg), 4*4 wheel drive (1160 kg).

5 qualyfing system: 2 free session of 40 minutes in the friday, 1 free session of 1 hour in saturday morning, 1 hour of qualyfing, superpole with the top 10 drivers with 1 only lap for each driver starting from the tenth until the first

6 the tracks:
- BRAZIL interlagos
- AREGENTINA buenos aires (oscar galvez circuit)
- MEXICO mexico city (hermanos rodriguez circuit)

Alfa Romeo Giulia rather than 159. Peugeot 407 no longer made so replace with Mazda 6, VW Passat or Citroën C5.

I would include more street circuits and not include Mexico or Abu Dhabi. To be replaced with Hamilton Street Circuit (NZ) and Göteborg (SWE). Also Donington Park is better for touring cars than Silverstone.

4 doors, no silly wings, big wheels and brakes, have as much power as you like, up to 2 litres.

Visit all the good tracks (no F1 built tracks)

Good to go.

Oh, and proper long races, 500km (Donnington..) to 1000km (Bathurst and Tourist Trophy at Silverstone) to 24 Hours (Spa).

i didnt know about alfa giulia but i just saw a pic and i can say it really beauty! about mazda 6 i thought at this model too but only if they dnt use station wagon model.

about system point considering the great number of car i think it could be better if they get points first 20 cars so: 40-30-24-20-16-15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1

1 hour for qualifying is a bit long. I'd make it 30 mins and then a 10 minute top-10 shoot out for pole to 10th all held in the morning with the sprint race held on Saturday. Then have another qualifying on Sunday morning for the Endurance race.

or another idea could be to give for the endurance race 4 new tyres for all drivers who finished after the 20th position in the first race!!

i dnt know if it is a good idea!! i mean stree circuit can be nice but in hypotetic competition with 40 and more cars do u think it would be possible to race???

why no FWD??? instead it would be more right to let freedom to each manufacture to choose which system to use FWD, RWD or 4*4WD

It depends on the track. And, TC 2000 series in Argentina features 36 cars on the grid and they race on street circuits.

ok but if it is just this the problem we can reduce the hp to 330/350 hp! and morever there would be for sure a compensation weight between fwd and rwd.

I like the idea except for the points system as a driver would not need to win any races in a season and could still win the championship by consistently coming home in the top 4.

Well, I would have to write an entire novel about my ideal changes to touring car racing. However, most would revolve around the rules making it more like the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge in the US and other showroom series, significantly cutting costs and making a quality program more logistical for small, private teams. Sure, it would slower the speed, but who watches touring car racing for the speed of the cars, especially when you have the potential for the kind of variety you see in CTSCC or World Challenge in North America?

Also, enough of this 20 or 30 minute sprint race rubbish, by the time the viewer has sat down after getting his drinks and snacks the race is already over. I find it comical that many modern touring car fans call these pathetically short races *real touring car racing*, if so, they obviously dont remember the old days of the ETCC or even BTCC. Many series with long races often end up having closer finishes than WTCC/BTCC/STCC ect.

Have one 40 Minute to 1 Hour *Sprint race* on Saturday with a 2 to 4 hour race on Sunday. Pitstops for the Sunday race which will lead to actual (gasp) strategy and these days the fastest car wont be able to win the race without a excellent strategy by the team like in V8 Supercars. Also, dont be afraid to race on bigger circuits like Spa or even the Nordschleife.

P.S. Despite this, unlike many on this forum I have no problem at all with Silhouettes, especially when the alternative today is SWhateveritisnow000 or NGTC.
