DNQ should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Schumacher to McLaren (1996)

I was broswing through the Motorsport.com news artchives, when I cam upon this. Take a look at the last sentence:

Finnish Broadcasting Corp. (YLE) SportNews carried item today wednesday,
quoting newsagancy Reuter, that 'McLaren F1 team has finally reached
contract that their motor will be Mercedes Benz for next 5 years. Also,
that Michael Schumacher has clearly said, that he is interested to join
McLaren F1 team 1996'.

Did TGF really think about joining McLaren? How close was he to signing? Also, what would have happened to DC?

I can remember a rumor that Ron Dennis wanted TGF, but it was Merc that said no. They had the belief that although it would have guarranted dominance, it would be looked apon as Michael making the car fast rather than the engine. The believed victory without him would have more marketing value than with him.

I think they are right. The other team that probably wouldn't hire him his Williams. Can you imagine what that would be like?

Think of TGF trying to race at Le Mans with three of them fighting over the car. The mind reels.

According to Damon Hill's Championship year 1996 by somebody something, McLaren actually bid more for Schumacher than Ferrari did (and had to settle for Coulthard)

Unfortunately MS is driving for Toyota at the moment.
But he did very well during the races he drove for Ferrari.
It would be nice to see him and TGF in the same team.
