Accuweather say rather warm, 31° C, mainly sunny, some showers in the afternoon. If you "decent" means dry start, fully agreed!

The real comparison is not with Monza, it's Spa. The same conditions pervades here as Spa, wet one second dry the next, and then raining yet again. If anything they should use their info and setup from Spa, and work according to that. It should help...

Waiting for the start… OT.

OT: @tomcug: if I tell you the best lap was completed in 1'17"287, can you tell me the name of the driver? One clue: related to another thread and was in 2008. End of the OT. Sorry folks, hard to resist…

With a rather short track it will be tricky for some to stay in the same lap as the leader. Good news, only one car will be used as SC.

Just a disrupted qualifying session. Poor driving, lockups and then they ran out of time to improve with the rain in the last sector at the end of the session.

It was pretty good in all. Just building through the session and taught us about warming them up to the race.

It’s endurance, qualifying is not key, all about building towards the important bit for the audience.

Yes its endurance. Sure qualifying is not key. But the gap between the first Toyota and any other car under the green flag will be of importance. And any penalty in time or worse a DT will mean one lap down if not more. Quite interesting to watch.

4 am race start for me, I plan to wake up on time but have to see how it works out in the end. Can be an interesting race, I hope Peugeout will put a stronger show than in qualy to make things more interesting.

Having got rid of old style qualifying which I liked it’s now pushed into a 15 min slot for TV. It’s a waste of 15 mins if first 5 mins everything is slow and last 5 mins is no change as too late for new set to warm up. It’s just bad TV - main showcase for getting people to watch race and it’s dull. Not keen on F1 races but F1 qualifying is a good show.

Showcase your product - not have first 5 mins of all over the place times and last 5 mins with no improvement

Compared to last years events it’s really bad. 10 mins might be better for each class or 30 with all cars on track but more chance for all cars to show their performance.

It’s endurance racing but qualifying is a pot shot on one or two laps when tyres on warm but not too old

Tyre warmers safer or more tyres per race so they warm up quicker

The solution is not to introduce something that then removes an aspect of the endurance race that adds interest and is an important part that makes it endurance. That I called it a solution is a misnomer. There is no problem that a solution is needed for.

If you can’t cope with five minutes of bedding in the tyres and getting into the qualifying you ain’t going to be able to cope with 6 hours! So we are saving these potential fans from wasting their time

In Hypercar the qualifying was ruined as a spectacle because the rain meant the last quarter of the session was irrelevant. How many fans did we lose because of that?!

Sorry for the mock outrage, but this is unimportant. No need to double down on this take

Not the cleanest of starts, looked like both Toyotas got caught napping. Bad luck for the 5 car.

What did the 5 get penalised for exactly?
