TVR Good, Bad, The Ugly

I recently visited the TVR factory in Blackpool and i got to see the TVR's of the past present and future but i just can't make up my mind if this is the future of Britain's super car market. Who else in Britain makes Super cars without help from bigger companies like Mercades,BMW,

How can you like the new morgan its cross eyed?? The old ones are boring and a bit dull. The marcos are nice but what about caterhams westfields they look nice go fast and you havent got to build them yourself.

The new Mog does look a bit odd, it's great from the side and the back but the front looks like it ran into a telephone pole!
I would love to have a Morgan with a V8, great sounding car and no-one will hassle you at the lights, you can leave them standing with no problem anyway. (I'm far from 75, but I do have a flat cap...)

I posted on this topic recently in this forum: TVR have single handedly made British sports cars credible again.

In about 1982, when a was the new kid on the block in a large inner city Intensive Care Unit, the Director had a Morgan Plus 8.

That car was so cool.

He also had a portrait of his wife done in oil on the wall of his office. With a very fetching plunging neck line.

But I think I coveted the car more. I think.

Ah yes, but you can look at all those names and sure, they're good products, but NONE of them has the international recognition of TVR, the same fit and finish of a TVR, the same proffesionalism of a TVR. Whislt the rest look as if they've been made in a hangar on an industrial estate, TVR seem somehoe AHEAD of all that.

The ONLY exception that I will concede are Lotus.

TVR's didn't they break down a lot not to many years ago??
I think for 'fit and finish' you would have to say the Morgan is the best (but I still don't like them) they are hand built and still have a waiting list, surly a sign of quality?
But if I had to have any of the cars mentioned on here it would be either the TVR or the Westfild/Caterham (well they’re basically the same)

Don't get me wrong, TVR's are wonderful cars with a fantastic exhaust sound, superb performance, stunning looks (although it's a bit tricky to tell some of the models apart from each other..) and they really are a fine example of the best of british- but don't forget the alternatives! All the cars I listed are available 'on the road' so you don't need to get your hands dirty (don't forget the early TVR's were available in kit form)

The latest range of TVRs are just stunning. That's all I've got to say. They are bloody amazing.
The Cebera Speed 6 is definately my ultimate dream car.

The new Ultima GTR looks fantastic. 200mph for £40k. Doesn't stop me wanting a TVR more. They're just better products. More proffesional. Like I said above, a car that doesn't look like it's been made in a shed.

The Ultima dosn't look like it was made in a shed, neither does the GTM or the Noble M12 or the Quantum H4 & 2+2 or the Caterham or the Westfield or the Dax or the.....I think you get the idea. The UK's specialist car industry has moved on a long way since Mr Dutton's time (and that from a member of the Dutton Owners Club......)
Tristan, get yourself a copy of Kit-Car or Which Kit? magazine and see where the real design brains are working (You'll have to look for them among many fake-snakes and Seven-types, but they are there! )

I thought the Dax was French??

But it STILL looks a step below a TVR in terms of finish and proffessionalism!!

Dax are in Harlow, not very French I think you'll agree, although their main product is a fake-snake they also make a car called the Rush which can be ordered with 4x4 as an option- combine that with a Cossie lump and it will out-manouver any TVR.
I wouldn't say no to a TVR, but I think you're somewhat blinkered and really need to have a look at what else is there, and I mean look for yourself- not listen to some bloke down the pub or Mr Clarkson- go and see them in the flesh, maybe take one for a drive.
As for TVR's, they are exellent cars, even with their reputation for unreliability but I prefer something a little more individual! (but I still wouldn't say no to a TVR...)
