(Another) Primary Sponsor for Manning

I don't know if anybody's covered this yet, but Sportsbook.com has just signed on with Walker to be Manning's primary sponsor. (They are also the presenting sponsor for the Miami race).

Sportsbook.com is a London-based online gambling company. But whatever happened to Air China? They came on to replace RAC. Three different primaries in the same season!

Good news for Walker, Manning, and CART in general.

All money is good money, and I'd rather have 3 primaries in a year than none. Welcome to sportsbook.

I heard the Air China was a long term thing as a part of Air China's plans to do....something, maybe the sportsbook.com deal is only for this race, or a few races, oh well, nice to see them aboard anyway.

They were in Montreal too -- I saw the signs at the Walker pits, almost as many as the Corona signs although they were not giving out any free samples of Sportsbook!

I think Manning is going to do some big things. Sponsors should be lining up to be associated with this guy.

I fully agree! If I were a company looking to sponsor a driver, Manning is EXACTLY the driver I'd want!

Me too, among other things he's personable and fan friendly, and he'd be an asset to any corporate sponsor -- as well as a very good racer who would amply repay all the investment made in him.

I didn't realsie that Manning is close to becoming the first rookie ever to score 8 back-to-back top 10 fiishes, whcih shows how impressive he's been. Currently 8th in the championship in Walker's best season for years - he could even match what De Ferran did in the team in 1999 (albet against a much stronger field)

RAC only got the big vinyls as a thank you - they weren't a 'primary' as such

Good for Manning, he's had a great year and deserves the sponsors, but it does make me wonder how he can get 3 sponsors in one season, and Team American Spirit can't attract even one. I know they havn't had a great year, and I don't know all the in's and out's of sponsorship, but there should be at least one American company willing to take a shot on them.

To me, it would seem like a no-brainer for an American company to back the only two American drivers in the series, or am I missing something?

I would have thought after RHR's podium that they could have gotten atleast a secondary sponsor.

The last 4 posts in this thread may provide some insight re ASTJ. Maybe.

And congrats to Darren for his new rookie record.

As I said in my last post - I don't frequent this forum much! - but what happened to the RAC backing?

I'm not sure they contributing much cash as such - they were a long-time sponsor of Manning's before he went to CART and out of loyalty to them he kept the logos on the car. Someone will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong...

You can't see it in the pic posted by Macdaddy, but the RAC logos are still on the car. They just aren't on the sidepods. I don't think they put up the big money and the RAC was on the sidepods out of loyalty like COS said above.
