Flyin Ryan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
2012 AMA Superbike

no domestic thread as yet but I watched the Daytona races from this past weekend

In the big classes, the first race was dominated by Josh Hayes of the factory Graves Yamaha team, winning by 7 seconds over Blake Young's factory Yoshimura Suzuki. A lot of one-rider crashes behind them.

Quote:
1 Josh Hayes Monster Energy Graves Yamaha Yamaha R1
2 Blake Young Yoshimura Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000 +8.332 sec
3 Roger Hayden National Guard Jordan Suzuki Suzuki GSX-R1000 +16.201 sec
4 Larry Pegram Foremost Insurance/Pegram Racing BMW S1000RR +24.728 sec
5 Steve Rapp Attack Performance Kawasaki ZX-10 +24.730 sec
6 Geoff May Team Amsoil/Hero EBR 1190RS +31.371 sec
7 Jake Holden EvanSteelPerformance.com BMW BMW S1000RR +38.419 sec
8 Robertino Pietri Team Venezuela Suzuki GSX-R1000 +40.601 sec
9 Chris Clark Yoshimura Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000 +42.283 sec
10 David Anthony Kneedraggers.com/ Motul/Fly Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000 +42.494 sec
In the second race, much tighter as Young nipped Hayes at the line.

3 Roger Hayden National Guard Jordan Suzuki Suzuki GSX-R1000 +10.283 sec
4 Josh Herrin Monster Energy Graves Yamaha Yamaha R1 +11.506 sec
5 Larry Pegram Foremost Insurance/Pegram Racing BMW S1000RR +21.904 sec
6 Steve Rapp Attack Performance Kawasaki ZX-10 +21.985 sec
7 Chris Clark Yoshimura Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000 +30.667 sec
8 Jake Holden EvanSteelPerformance.com BMW BMW S1000RR +32.488 sec
9 Danny Eslick Team Hero EBR 1190RS +37.672 sec
10 Robertino Pietri Team Venezuela Suzuki GSX-R1000 +44.920 sec
23 starters in both races.

In the Daytona 200, a privateer of all things won, and legitimately too as we was up front all day leading 41 of 57 laps. Carl Pascarella of Project One Atlanta won in a one-off on board a Yamaha. The bike went into victory lane with not a single Yamaha or Graves sticker on it (if you want to read an amusing press release catch Yamaha's post-Daytona one, they acknowledge Pascarella and that he was on a Yamaha, but then give the next two paragraphs on their factory riders a lot more ink and those riders talk about how their races went).

Two guys to feel bad for here are defending champ Jason DiSalvo and Dane Westby. Westby's last pit stop the front tire change did not go well and put him 30 seconds back after running with the leaders the whole time. DiSalvo's Triumph had some issue on lap 14 that led him to pit early after travelling around the track slow, once back on track there was no issue but he was some 40 seconds back. He caught up to the leaders on the final lap of the race and looked like he would slingshot by Pascarella to win but Pascarella drafted off a lapper to remain in the lead at the line. The four there at the finish were these two along with Beaubier (factory Graves Yamaha) and Cardenas. 12 finished on the lead lap out of 44 starters.

9 Tommy Aquino Yamaha YZF-R6 +47.643 sec

Kinda weird, I ahve seen so many close finishes at Daytona now, on the line etc, but the rest of the race is so very American, pitstops, tons of slow traffic! lol

Shame they ruined it by not allowing Superbikes, was a great time in the 90's when you had factory bikes being tested there and then entries into the race.
