Falken Mod Prod Cars

As one of the most popular club saloon series of the past two decades i have often wondered the whereabouts of the many good cars which ran in the Falken tyres mod prod saloons. I assume that many are sat in garages but very interested to find out as much as poss. I do know the history of a fair few so wil start by listing them and then see who else comes up with what!
1, Gerry Cain Rover SD1 sat in his garage.
2, Adrian Fuller Ford Capri now runs in group 1 touring cars.
3, David Fuller Ford Capri i think now owned by Ric Wood??
4, Alan Weyman Camaro need i say any more.
5, Ray West Manta 400 sat in garage.
6, Ray Wesy Opel Ascona written off at Snett 1994.
7, John Hill Manta sat in my workshop.
8, Brian Cox pug 205 Written off at Combe.
9, Phil Seaman Lotus Sunbeam sat in his garage.
10, Simon Light Capri sat in garage.
These are ones i can think off the top of my head which i know where they are. In its heyday there were probably ten capris ten escorts mk1 and mk2 6 fiestas 4 corollas 6 minis 6 rover sd1s 6 pug 205s novas astras and so on and some pretty interesting characters too! So where have they all gone to. Looking forward to any feedback.

Hi Dave,

Good times for sure and first known as the Budget Rent-a-Car Championship. As you know the championship was amalgamated with CTCRC Classic Thunder in 2007 which in my opinion was a mistake as the cars were steel bodied and fully glazed and would have been more suited with less mods to the Pre-93 championship which is what I down graded my IROC-Z for as it was totally outclassed in Classic Thunder.

Denis Bassom uses his Corolla from the championship in CT but he has chucked a massive amount of mods at the car as has Joss Roncetti and talking of which do not forget the Lotus Sunbeam contingency, I think we had 8 of em out at one stage and the Rover SDi's of Ray of Rovertec and his mates (he married Tom Walkinshaws daughter, I went to the reception on the way to Mallory!) and Ellis Bergman's Camaro it was like V8 City!

One of the reasons for the massive Capri contingency was we also started the Capri Challenge which was then amalgamated into the main championship, Dave Fuller's was unique by the fact that it ran a 2.4 Holbay Pinto engine and certainly surprised a few V6's.

What colour was that gold ?

Blimey I'd completely forgotten about that 'Truseal Mod Prods'. I first saw them down at Lydden, I think I've still got the program

Now from what I can remember the Britnell brothers were racing their Mk2 RS2000s and Andy Pyke had his Mk1 Mexico. I even think Ellis Bergman might have been racing ? Plus there was a orange Sunbeam Lotus, but I don't remember his name, I think I was probably still going to school when these cars raced.

And you may have remembered a red Chevrolet Monza Spyder V8 driven hard into the bank and totalled by moi at the same meeting. That thing had a twist in the chassis and just would not turn right preferring to go straight on which it did at the end of the start finish straight! Such a shame never seen one raced over here before or after and so much potential in car the size of Vauxhall Coupe yet fitted with a 5.7 V8.

My car is still going and now runs in the DMN.
Craig Davies Sapphire was sold to Andy Williams who used it in the Welsh Sports and saloons, but wrote it off at Brands
Andy Clarkins Sunbeam was sold to a bloke in Southampton and have seen it about a few times

Oh and Ray Donner is still grumpy for having to sell the manta

Of cousre your escort is still running andy, i forgot. What are andy and craig doing now do they not fancy coming back out? I am going to sell the manta so if Ray Donner wants it back put him in touch! A few more have sprung to mind now
1, Richard Woodland Nova gte, then raced by Tony Dolley just wore it out i think!
2, Michael Helm Xr2 i think he went rallying with same car?
3, Rason Brothers minis from what Al meyman says they still have them
4, Nick Davies Lotus sunbeam i think he took it hillclimbing

There are still loads of cars off the radar which were quick and well prepped cars, Hammersley Astra, Scott Austin RS2000, Colley brothers RS2000,s to name a few.

Len Colley posted one of his hard at Lydden and Len is now racing in SELOC and won the last round I believe as he always was a damned good peddlar, John Hammersley broke his Astra after trying for ages to sell it and made more money breaking it. Funny enough Scott Austin has reappeared and now works for a friend of Phil Wallers in Watford but I think the car has long been sold on.

I can't believe Ray is grumpy Andy he always has a smile on his face when ever I have met him, only time I see him grumpy was when he sold that stunning Mustang he renovated. I have driven that Manta around Goodwood and its a very well balanced forgiving car for anyone interested in a punt with Dave.

OH YES! I do remember that well. Ray Donner at the wheel if i remember? I was on the bank at devils elbow. It was definatley a biggy! Yeh Ray West sold the Ascona to Andy Trapnell who did group 1 tourers in it but entered a second race on that day in falkens for the fun of it and was running at the back of a race he shouldnt of even been in when it happened! Is Scotts car still in use or sat doing nothing?

I wonder what happened to my old 'Swan Lite' Astra?
I sold it to Graham Millward then I don't know what happened to it?
It was a liitle underpowered when I had it but it handled like a dream after working loads on its setup in the Uniroyal/Monroe/Production Saloons before we used it in the Modprods.

I have an professional Anglia TV production of a complete race on VHS somewhere also footage from Irish TV when we had the memorable trip to Modello. Now I have a decent hard drive DVD recorder unit linked to the VHS I may see if I can copy it and maybe youtube it.

Andy,I also remember the Mondello trip very well .It was June 1994 and I asked a young lady if she would like to come to Ireland for the weekend ,she came along enjoyed my company so much that she moved in with me two months later ,her name is Frances Fuller and now she is my dear wife.( also known as "The Gruppen Furher" )

So, as Al Weyman organised the trip I can blame my whole life on him ,He has cost me a bloody fortune..

I'll be in to see you this morning Al ,Need some really big CLAPPERS graphic's for my car as it will seen on TV in a few weeks time

Come on Andy Clarkin, Ray Donner, Mike Helm, Et Al, (Al Weyman that is!) where are you? - John Hammersley
