You must be Ray Ellis. Your car was featured in Car & Car Conversions.
Did you used to race a Escort Mk2 1300cc ?

Aha.... Raymondo.... looking forward to seeing you back in harness!!

As for the Escort, if I remember right, it was the lumps of P38 falling out of the shell that kept people behind it (dodging them)!!!

Those were the days! Eh!

Mick,

Yep Neighbours it was, though it was not an in-car video, but a trackside one my late Father had taken. I've still got a few tapes which hopefully one day in the distant future will make it onto a dvd.

Nice to see Ray on here, who probably doesn't remember me, but my ears are still ringing from that F3 screamer!

Tony.

Mick was it you or your brother that once went off at the top of paddock at Brands. I remember th car parked in the gravel then Andy Clarkin came off in the same place in his red sunbeam, ploughing in to the mini pretty hard. The sunbeam shell is still around in toyo saloons occasionally, last time i saw it some years ago it still has a small kink in the roof from the accident!

From what i can remember, Andy never had a big off at Brands. You may be thinking of the same thing happening at Snetterton at Russel with Helen Hills Mini

Def Brands Andy, i do also remember the snett one with Helen Hill, (what ever happened to those two?) It was right at the top of paddock. I can remember Ray donner telling my Dad how he cut the front corner off another sunbeam and grafted it in to Andys. The car was then brought by Mick Tolfrey on of Ray (wests) mates where we still noticed the roof. I saw the car at a circuit a few years back and the kink was still there. It was a big hit, it took Andy while to gather his senses i hink and clamber from the car!

John had an off at paddock but wasnt hit by anyone that i can remember. and as it would have been me repairing it..........
i had 2 offs !! 1 all on my own at mclaren in the wet. the late Roger Turners pit crew spent a couple of hours helping to get me to the grid and i made it just in time to start from the pit lane.
and 1 when i got pushed on the grass exiting clark onto the straight and lost it half way up the pit straight into the pit wall!! again all by my self!! that was scary as i was near the front at the time! and it was lap 1.
But funny enough...... as andy mentioned it i also had a comming together with one of the Hills at snett. i managed to out brake roger at the end of revett and he disapeared onto the grass only to reappear backwards infront of me in the esses! virtually totaled both cars but at least roger brought his to me for the repair ha ha. that was a filmed event and i have the tape didnt show the impact but nice pic of to sad looking minis !
roger did most of his own repairs but brought the bigger ones to me. i worked on Helens car as well a few times but dont remember one that big.
I havent spoken to him for a few years but i heard that Helen was very poorly so i hope all is ok in southend!

Nice looking pair of cars there, well found. Ray Donner in the black one used to prep some lovely cars. Wonder what he's doing now?

Ray is still about, still preparing lovely cars! Speak to Craig Davis or Andy Pipe at the next meeting I am sure they will fill you in.

Some more pictures from John Hammersley

He cannot post pictures yet because of his low post count so doing this on his behalf. Good to see the old Chevy lining up at its usual spot at the back of the grid mind you I was back there with Ellis Bergman's Camaro and it was wet!

Crikey Al, a low post count - does that mean I'm unable to father any children! Thanks for posting the photos. The interest in the old Falken series still amazes me. We had some great races and great times. Happy days!

Ha ha well I didnt want to tell everyone you didnt know how to do it did I? BTW I am not sure if it is because of the low count maybe a moderator could tell us.

It was a great championship concieved by and ran by drivers for drivers and as we had more power than grip as we ran on List 1a's it was always exciting to watch. We also had a very generous prize fund from Falken Tyres which we fed back to the drivers in prize money in fact some and I believe you were amoungst them sometimes came away from the meeting actually in pocket! How rare is that these days with every organiser dipping in the sponsorship pot or whats left of it with the poor amount companies are now prepared to put in to be involved? Thanks Falken Tyres for some good years.

Hi Mick, still doing a bit. Currently doing CSCC Tin-Tops in a Civic Type R, (won at Cadwell last week!), and Future Classics in a (would you believe this!) Astra GTE, (second at Cadwell last week!) Life in the Old dog yet
What about you?
