Hey dont make it a road car get it back out in our Classic Thunder series! Some of the vinyl graphics on the car probably came from my workshop here. It was always entered as a Monza and I think I spy an Opel badge on the grill, in any case they are the same car to all intents. Phil never got to grips with the Starion and I have fond memories of tracking him through corners just close enough so he would inevitable get into the turbo too soon and spin the back out although I over egged it once at Brands and we both ended up in the kitty litter at the hairpin as we both went in in unison for a perfect 10/10.

Definition of road legal is slightly different here , as its 30 yr old now its classed as Vintage and is test excempt , so can get away with a little bit more .Wish I could afford to ship it back and forth for the classic thunder series I understand what you mean about the opel badging , same on the boot spoiler , but I have the logbook for it and it is on that as a Royale coupe , was still in the name of the original owner from new , Filmer Graphics in Luton , so I am the 2nd registered owner , will be on irish plates in the next week or so

Just do a good number on it then BTW I dont think thats the first time that car has been to the Emerald Isle as I am reasonably sure Phil raced it when the club went to Mondello Park, I have an Irish TV video hear somewhere.

Gonna try and keep it as original as possible , especially on the outside , inside have fitted new seats and a dash to hide the wiring and house the gauges etc , still has the alloy roll cage in it , when it gets to paint might see if Phil will allow me to redo the graphics as was in the pics
Have trawled the internet and not found anything to do with the Monza until I came across this thread
Any info , pics or anything to do with the Monza will be greatly appreciated
Whereabouts of the original engine would be a miracle

Sorry for hijacking the thread but last progress on its history for my interest

What year was it at Mondello Park

The picture on 'page 5'

Has a yellow escort as last car on left of picture I think that was steve hirst.
He had a monster crank that Ripspeed helped him build 2.6L I think.

Also regarding same picture from Alan on page 5 his blue Camaro might be followed by David Leslie's white and green Rover SD1 the first 4.5L planar cranked Rover V8 I'd "met"

I have a picture of the Monza chasing me at Oulton Park I will post it when I dig it out, I raced a Monza myself albiet very briefly but it was nothing like that one, it was an American Monza Spyder V8 based on the Vega chassis. The Irish trip mwould have been early 90's I will ask Adrian Fuller as he went and should know as he keeps notes unlike me.

No that is Dick Whittington's Escort and Gerry Cain in Dave Tetley's old white and green Rover, Ray Webb who married Tom Wheatcroft's daughter (I attended the reception) is in the black and red SD1 and he was the man who was playing around with the flat plane cranks but it seemed to make the car unreliable. BTW my Camaro was the white one, Ellis Bergman was the driver of the blue one.

Jon Owen in Toyota Corolla at a foggy Silverstone in March 1989 Budget Rent-a-car series. The 1st I'm not so sure about:-

The last is of the similar but vastly superior corolla of Terry Stone.
Terry ran a garage in Leeds I think and was killed in an accident while cutting pipes down in the garage that swept his ladder away.
Great driver who spend most his time looking out of the side windows!

I knew Ray well and spent weeks in his garages in Leicester and Fleckney looking after my own road going SD1 and that of Paul Gerrado's 3.9 racer that was an old white car with more flex than a Maxi! I drilled through the NSF wing wiring loom and almost set fire to it in Fleckney!
I was sure that Dave had a planar 4.5 Rovercraft engine done by Simon Law

Yeah Terry was a nice bloke that was a bloody tragedy. Oddly enough he nearly came to grief a short while before that, he had a quad bike and took his daughter for a ride around Mallory Park after dark but forgot that they strung a chain across the track to stop such acts, any how he came barrelling around and got garrotted by the chain and threw him and his daughter off the quad.

I'd forgotten about the quad bike.
He and his family were family where very kind to Jon and myself when we were just starting out making fools of ourselves!

Is that Graham Streeter's Lancia Beta in background?

Yes thats right, and the Maestro Turbo of Colin Crump I think that ended up on its roof on the catch fencing opposite the pits at Mallory in the most spectacular roll i have ever seen, the car must have been ten foot in the air at one stage.

It was to be in a loan engine as I understand, may be wrong it was eons ago, not just the crank, I should have made that clear.

No wont be there tommorow Al. As i didnt register as a member this year cause i had a year out dont think im invited! Plus any new ideas being put to the club at the moment from somebody outside the little circle seem to be shot down in flames straight away so could probably get some more constructive things done at home! Might ring you on monday to see how you get on if thats ok mate? Dave

I've raced in all 3 and enloyed them all, but Slick50 was definitely the most fun from inside the car aswell. Heavy cars (full interior), no lsd, Uniroyals, standard brakes and plenty of power was a good recipe
I'll pm you about anything I might have, pics, vids etc.

I think thats the Batmobile owned by Chris Randall that was made an offer he couldnt refuse. Ray's Manta 400 shattered the flywheel in a spectacular way does anyone remember that at Snett?
